     The Introductory Arc
  • The first litter of direwolves is all sorts of sweet for the elder Targs and Starks. Rhaenys especially is giddy to finally have her own pet wolf.
  • Rhaenys and Baelon have a little talk eldest to eldest from different munas. Rhae talks openly about how she gets the whispers surrounding her family, and about how she's now whispered of as the 2nd Queen that Never Was. While Baelon is outraged, then slightly guilty that as the eldest of them all, Rhae didn't get the throne. And for her part, Rhaenys then lays out that Baelon is the best of the next generation to get the crown. That with all the others having various personality defects, Baelon is the best compromise candidate to hold the Iron Throne in the future.
  • Despite their...rough moment together, Baelon helps make up with Rickard Stark by telling him of his suggestion to the king to have him be fostered with his great-uncle Brynden in the crownlands. Simultaneously giving him some significance, and giving him a chance to get to know his birth mother from a different source.
    • And then giving him a dragon ride as a way to finish giving him something special.
  • Thinking about Baelon's issues with too much positive attention, Rhaegar realizes that he's been neglecting his eldest son Aegon's emotional needs. So, he decides to give Aegon 3 things to gain more honor and love.
    • First, he agrees to send him to Dorne for fostering. Showing him trust to act as the family representative to Uncle Doran.
    • Second, he gives him his own ancestral weapon: Red Rain from the Drumms, which he renames Fyrefist to act as another blade to pass down to other dragons.
    • And finally, to ensure he and Baelon sit at equal status in the eyes of the gods, Rhaegar knights Aegon.
  • While she's still as rough as ever, there's a hopeful dimension for Obara's marriage to Jorah Mormont that these 2 people controlled by their emotions might've found a partner who can keep them in check.
  • In desperation to try and keep Robb off of Dany and Sansa, Marg gives him his first kiss. It was a surprise to be sure, but they both end up enjoying it.

     Baelon's Story
  • Despite still being a bit wild, Elbert Arryn is still a jovial, friendly kind of man. And sure to be kind to his niece Sansa as she's scheming to leave for Essos with Baelon and Arthur.
  • Baelon and Dany make friends with none other than Drogo. Not quite a Khal yet, but one with a sibling who is grateful for their help in protecting her.
  • Dany manages to give Lady Larra Aekylosh of Valyria shelter from the next dothraki raid just because she wanted to learn more about the woman who shoots fire from her hands. And is sure to escort her through safety for their travels afterwards.
  • Despite the dark futures that hang over them, Baella Blackfyre and Baelon Targaryen form an intimate and heartfelt relationship while in Lys.
  • Baelon, Sansa and Dany pulling Missandri out from her despair. Taking her, and giving her freedom.

     Rhaenys's Story
  • Since Arthur's plans didn't leave room for other defenders, Baelon's last instructions to his Sworn Sword Sandor Cleagane is to watch over Rhaenys during her fostering in the north. Despite her own annoyance, Rhae admits she can't decide whether to punch or hug her little brother afterwards.
  • As Ygritte defies her people and takes shelter with Rhaenys, finally they can no longer give in to their affections, and have a passionate night of sexual revelry to keep warm.
  • Leaf graciously healing Rhaenys after their attack from the White Walkers.

     Aegon's Story
  • After years of fostering, Asha Greyjoy has this to say to Aegon: despite the circumstances behind it, House Targ basically adopted her as one of their own. And so, she's making a point to protect Egg from social climbers by coupling with him for the first time before going to Dorne.
  • While very bittersweet how Asha felt she had to break things off with Aegon, the loss nonetheless adds some steel to his heart. That true, he lost a love. But he will love again, and will remember the goodness Asha showed him.
  • As Aegon is exploring his sexuality, he goes to his cousin Arianne for advice about how to handle being bisexual. Arianne is forthright about how as a royal, he'll have expectations to marry and carry on the Targ name, but when taking male lovers, stay away from whores but be wise in how to handle it. A calm but balanced way for him to handle the future.
  • Though infuriated by his continued passes at her, Nymella does admit that Aegon is good with administration and caring for her daughters.
  • Nymella, grateful and charmed by this heroic knight who saved her life from the Ironborn, gives Aegon the answer she never got to before: Yes, I will marry you.
  • Seeing Aegon with one of his rash break outs, Nymella immediately goes to not only comfort him, but tend to him. A first sign that she's ready to not only love Aegon, but comfort and care in his hardest moments.

     The Stories in King's Landing
  • While Tywin might personally still dislike Tyrion, he's ambitious and rational enough to give him a recommendation to become the new Master of Coin. That he's still smart, and thus deserves some power to serve the realm in an official capacity.
  • Despite his impure starting point, Tyrion does try to sincerely connect to Nymeria Sand. Being clear that he can't hold a candle in terms of appearance, but that he gets people judging them harshly because of who they are.
  • Though they arrived under a cloud of suspicion, house Aekylosh found a more open minded supporter in Tyrion, who despite being strangers, trusted that Baelon wouldn't just send anyone to the Red Keep for shelter.
