General

  • Like with most of Loren Bouchard's projects, the central family's devotion to each other is absolute. The Tobins are openly affectionate and shown to be supportive of each other's quirks. Special mention goes to Wolf and Ham, who are so brimming with love for their family that they struggle to even be a little annoyed at them (Such as when Ham yearns for a dramatic coming out, but his family has always been enthusiastically supportive of him being gay)
    • The family's immediate and enthusiastic acceptance of Honeybee (and later Jerry) just goes to show what genuinely good people they are. Wolf and Honeybee's marriage is new, but solid nonetheless. Honeybee can do no wrong in Wolf's eyes, and while Honeybee is sometimes confused by new aspects of Alaskan culture she joins in quickly. Beef's adversity to change never stops him from accepting Honeybee and Jerry, he is just as disappointed that Honeybee will be moving out in the pilot as he is Wolf. Judy is excited to have a big sister in a family of men, as well as an adult female role model that she never had in her own Mother. Ham and Moon also spend a lot of time with her doing their own activities, even though there has yet to be a spotlight episode for their relationship.

  • The town of Lone Moose is also an incredibly tight-knit community, holding regular town-wide events and meetings where even the children participate. Characters who would be stereotypical outcasts like Alyson (who Really Gets Around) are shown to be active and beloved members of the community. The Mayor is down to earth but still finds time for fun, choosing Moon's idea of a Jurassic Park-themed disaster drill and dressing actors and vehicles up to look like dinosaurs. It's no wonder that Honeybee and Jerry fall in love with Alaska with Lone Moose as the setting.

Season One

     Sexi Moose Adventure
  • When Judy tells her family that she's going to quit the job before it's started so Beef won't be upset, everyone is against her decision, despite knowing it might put Beef into another meltdown. Hearing Judy wanting to quit gives Wolf the courage to tell Beef that he and Honeybee plan on moving into the guest cabin when they get married.
    • Beef learning to accept his children growing and moving on, and beginning to make peace with his wife leaving.
  • When Ham comes out as gay (again), his family reiterates that they love him no matter what.

     Feast of Not People Adventure
  • Even though Beef has no interest in competing in the Daver Dash, because he's won so many with his brother that he's lost interest, he's willing to compete again with Wolf when Wolf asks him to. On the day of the race, despite Wolf damaging his hands, peeing his pants, hurting his abs, and sobbing the whole time, he's proud of Wolf's determination to continue the race despite his setbacks.
  • When Ham reveals he's the new Cake Lady, while his family is surprised, they don't make fun of him or judge him negatively for doing something that's typically done by a woman and they're very supportive of his work. After he reveals he's the new Cake Lady to the people in town, none of them have a problem with it.
    • After the reveal, Ham also admits that he was the one who baked Judy's birthday cake in the previous episode.
  • As Ham and Judy are driving into town to deliver the cake they made, their car suddenly breaks down on the highway. Thankfully, Beef and Wolf (who are carrying Moon and Honeybee) happen to be nearby since they're competing in the Daver Dash. As soon as they hear Ham and Judy calling for help, Beef, Wolf, and Honeybee immediately drop out of the competition to help them carry the cake the rest of the way (Moon doesn't, but only because he refuses to break character as a cadaver).

     Avocado Barter Adventure
  • How Wolf and Honeybee met. Honeybee visits a message board called FMQOL (Famous Movie Quotes Online) to cheer herself up and got a message from Wolf to discuss quotes from Shrek. They got serious pretty quickly ("As serious as two people who had only communicated via an online message board dedicated to famous movie quotes can get"), they've been texting each for some time and Wolf unintentionally texted Honeybee he loves her but claims that was autocorrect; this stuns her for a moment but she's happy to hear it. When Wolf asks her if she could come to Alaska, she hasn't decided yet until Calvin attempts a proposal to her due to their parents' pressure, prompting her to move. After getting support from her family, she goes to meet Wolf in Vancouver at the Coffee Beanery (the same place that appeared in Final Destination), and when they finally meet, they described it as "Fireworks. It was perfect".
  • As Honeybee tells Judy the story of how she met Wolf, Judy can't help but squeal in delight over how cute and romantic their story is.
  • Despite Beef and Ham getting every details wrong about Shrek and decorating Wolf and Honeybee's six-month anniversary Shrek-themed party incorrectly, none of the family has the courage to correct them due to how happy and proud they are of their work and Honeybee is happy they did this for them.

    Romantic Meat-Based Adventure
  • Even though Beef failed to find a date at the Meet and Meat, he is happy that he was at least able to try.
  • Beef reassures Judy that there's nothing wrong with them; they're just shy and might need a little push. This emboldens Judy to finally kiss Steven.

    Pride & Prejudance Adventure
  • After Judy realizes that Crispin and Ham are in love, she comes to accept that fact and gives the couple her blessing.

     Keep Beef-lievin' Adventure
  • Honeybee's support of her brother, Jerry. She would clearly love having him live closer, and is upset after Jerry's Failure Montage that he doesn't take to Alaskan life as quickly as she did. She also does a good job of trying to help him figure out what he wants to do instead of just following in her footsteps.
  • The family succeeds in reviving Moon's belief of Bigfoot by having Jerry dress up in a Bigfoot costume and walk around outside Moon's school. This in turn helps Jerry realize that making other people happy is what makes him happy.

     Tusk in the Wind Adventure
  • When Tusk Johnson has Beef and Wolf compete to be the sidekick on his new show, Beef decides to purposefully lose because he sees how excited Wolf is.
  • When Tusk's recklessness gets Wolf caught in a trawler net, Beef immediately springs into action to save his son. This incident makes Beef realize how dangerous Tusk is, and he immediately orders Tusk out of his house.
  • As Beef rescues Wolf from falling off an unstable log placed over a cliff, Wolf apologizes to his dad for not believing him about Tusk, and also tells his dad he loves him.
  • When the rest of the family get mad at Beef for taping over Dynasty, Beef makes it up to them by buying seasons 6 through 9 on DVD so they can watch it together.

My Fart Will Go On Adventure
  • In her efforts to secure a cast member of Titanic to come to her wedding, Honeybee has a sweet interaction with a little boy:
Honeybee: Okay, so your name is Victor Garber, but you are not the actor Victor Garber from the movie Titanic...oh you're in second grade? Okay...No, I agree, math is hard...Yeah, I like trains. Okay I'm gonna go now, Victor...mm-hmm, I love you too!
  • When Honeybee's family arrives for the wedding, Beef takes them on a tour of the town, and they all genuinely have a good time together.
  • When the Tobins finally admit to the Shaws the situation with Kathleen and explain exactly why they don't want her at the wedding, the Shaws are completely understanding about it. They also reassure the Tobins that their family has plenty of characters too, and that no family is perfect.
  • The Tobin kids are disappointed Kathleen couldn't be bothered to attend Wolf's wedding, no matter how much of a human disaster their mom is. Beef assures them that their mixed feelings are valid and reminds them of how important their family still is to him.
Beef: But your mother wasn't all bad. She did give me the four things I love most in this world.
Beef: Ahh, she took those with her.
    Moon: Damn it!
Beef: I mean the four of you kids.
(The Tobins all come in for a group hug.)

Season Two

     The Great Punkin' Adventure
  • Beef reassuring Ham that he's not offended by the parent-bashing punk song Ham wrote, and he's actually glad that Ham is finally exhibiting some rebellion instead of just trying to please everyone.

The Yawn of the Dead Adventure
  • At the end of the episode, Judy and Ham apologize to Moon for coddling him, admitting that it's a little hard seeing him growing up because they played a big part in raising him. In response, Moon asks his older brother and sister to read him a bedtime story.

     Wanted: Delmer Alive Adventure
  • Beef has been telling his kids stories about his older friend, Delmer, for years. The episode is about the Tobins telling Delmer the stories so he'll stay awake after falling and hitting his head.
  • Beef revealing the inspirations behind the three stories: the alien story was inspired by the time Delmer took Beef and Brian in after their parents briefly joined a space cult, the camp monster story was inspired by the summer Delmer allowed Beef to work at his camp, and the sea monster story was inspired by a real fishing trip Delmer took Beef on when the latter learned Kathleen was expecting their first child.
  • Beef thanking Delmer for everything he did for Beef and Brian as they were growing up.

     Beef's Craig Beef Adventure
  • When Beef is first imagining owning the Sea-Doo, he imagines himself giving Ham, Judy, and Moon a ride as Wolf and Honeybee watch. Even when imagining owning a luxury item, Beef wants to share it with his family.
  • Even after the Tobins find out that Craig was deliberately trying to sabotage them, Beef immediately offers help when Craig's boat hits a reef and sinks.
  • When Craig admits to Beef that while he wants Kathleen, he doesn't want Beef's life because he hates kids, Beef responds as such:
Beef: I feel the same. About not wanting your life, not kids. I believe kids are funny, smaller versions of regular people. Also, I love mine.
  • In the end, while the Tobins don't have enough money to buy a Sea-Doo, they do end up getting enough money to rent a Sea-Doo, allowing Beef to do what he imagined doing at the beginning: have some fun with his family.

Season 3

     Pa-shank Redemption Adventure
  • The Tobins making the effort to celebrate Beef birthday, even trying to break some smaller laws to be with him in jail. They even got him something simple that he would love: a heated toilet seat.
  • While a little surprise, Beef doesn’t shame Pete for still being a virgin. Even helping him realize that Danica is bad for him and should go back to his ex.
