Heartwarming / Syngenesophobia

Go To

Syngenesophobia is grim and dark, with a child beating so bad, he has to recover in the hospital but it still has plenty of heartwarming moments.

    General
  • Rita being a Mama Bear and staying with Lincoln during his first night at the hospital because he's scared and doesn't want to be alone. Lily's interactions with him during those chapters count too.
    • There's also other people in Lincoln's life coming to visit, such as Ronnie Anne (who had earlier beat the living hell out of Lynn to avenge him, and later admitted to her mother that Lincoln was actually her boyfriend, to which Maria squeals in delight, and later, Ronnie Anne breaks down in tears upon seeing Lincoln's injuries and kisses him goodbye on the lips), Bobby (who had broken up with Lori over the ordeal), and Clyde (who brought some of Lincoln's comics over from his house, and also gets the new Ace Savvy comics when they come out).

Chapter 7 A Flicker of Hope

Chapter 22 A Long Road Ahead

  • Oddly Chapter 22's reveal that Lily has forgiven her sisters enough to not push them away (in contrast to the opening discussion about how she'd fuss if they'd try to hold her and refused to sleep in the same room as Lisa) is rather sweet, especially given how badly everyone's beating themselves up for the whole mess.
  • The same chapter also sees Lynn Sr. rolling back part of Lucy's punishment and giving her journal back, after learning that writing is an outlet for her depression.

Chapter 23 School Daze

  • In Chapter 23, we find out Lynn at least has one friend left who doesn't completely hate her, Margo (the buck-toothed, big-nosed girl who told Lynn she had to take a wicked dump in "Intern for the Worse", and has appeared in several other episodes). Granted, Margo is still very disappointed about what Lynn did to Lincoln and admits that some of Lynn's more annoying traits aren't fun to experience but (to paraphrase) just because you don't like things your friends do doesn't mean you hate them.

Chapter 27 Attempting To Move On

  • After a day-mare involving his sisters managing to come through the phonelines while begging him to come home, Lincoln manages to send Lori a text. Sure it's just one word but he initiated contact!
    • Also the girls are all trying very hard to understand each other's issues, despite lingering trauma and irritation.
  • When Lori responds to Lincoln's text, the pair end up having a text conversation that ends with Lincoln saying he loves his sisters still. Subverted by the fact that the message is obviously forced and Lori knows it.

Chapter 28 Mixed Results

  • Chapter 28 sees Lynn training Ronnie Anne to be a better fighter, possibly as a way to atone

Chapter 29 A Second Chance

  • Clyde tells his best friend that their is more to him than simply being a good brother, and that if he stopped trying to be more like his sisters, he'll find the special talent that he's been looking for, for so long.

Chapter 31 Finding Clarity

  • After years of feeling like he was the odd one out in his family. The only one without a talent for anything but being useful in a sea of gifted siblings, Lincoln is finally starting to see he's just as talented as any of his sisters. Which his art teacher and Ronnie Anne certainly agree with upon seeing his work.
  • Carol texts Lori a You Are Better Than You Think You Are speech, that despite what she's done, she is not a bad person.

Chapter 36 Momma I'm Coming Home

  • After weeks of bawling her eyes out from not seeing her big brother, Lily is over the moon to see Lincoln finally come home. She runs up to her big brother as fast as her little legs can carry her and hugs him. Saying his name clearly as she buries her head into his neck.

Chapter 37 Resettling

  • Lily actively tries to break the ice between Lynn Jr. and Lincoln, even going so far as to drag Lynn towards Lincoln.

Chapter 39 Metered Confidence

  • Lynn giving Lincoln a Cooldown Hug and a You Are Better Than You Think You Are speech which was so out of character for her, Lincoln didn't push her away or panic. While Lynn is far from losing Lincoln's fear towards her nor her sisters, let alone earning Lincoln's forgiveness, it is one step ahead.
  • When Lynn Sr found out his sixth child was finally going to be a boy, his screams of joy were so loud they woke up baby Lynn.

Chapter 42 Shuffling The Deck

  • When Lynn. Sr stumbles upon his son's comics, it takes him a moment to realize that Lincoln drew them himself. Far from disappointed that his son, he smiles and states they have an artist in the family.

Chapter 45: Stage Plight

  • During their session with Dr. Lopez, when Lola breaks down due to her guilt of what she did, Lincoln finally overcomes his fear of her and starts acting like a big brother again.
