Heartwarming / Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo

Go To

  • In "The Scarab Lives", the gang attempt to catch the villain at the museum and Scrappy is, with a bit of convincing from Fred and Scooby, left out and told not to move. Scrappy is clearly hurt as the others go in, and Daphne looks back a moment to see if he's OK-and as a result is able to spot the Scarab trying to murder him (for exposing him earlier)
  • "The Night Ghoul of Wonderworld":
    • Velma living out her dream of solving a case with Sherlock Holmes. She knows it's not real, but you can tell she's enjoying every second of it.
    • And the gang treating her to it in the first place.
    • Despite things going wrong, Velma continues to have a good time (since it really just made it more of a mystery, which she is known to love).
    • It's subtle, but after Scooby and Shaggy have been separated from Scrappy by a revolving door, Scooby can be seen pawing frantically at the wall that he knows Scrappy is behind. It shows just how much Scooby cares about his nephew and how seriously he takes his role as Scrappy's guardian.
  • Scrappy is seen looking quite concerned and trying to warn Scooby when he tries to eat robot food. Scooby, being Scooby, eats it anyway, and Scrappy is shown grinning broadly and hugging him when he sees Scooby managed it.
  • In "Strange Encounter of a Scooby Kind", Fred, Velma and Daphne get caught in one of Scrappy's traps and they're rather annoyed. A sheepish Scrappy asks if they'd throw him back in the kennel for his mistake and Daphne says of course not. She's even about to kiss him on the cheek before he runs off in pursuit of a monster. As annoyed as the gang can be by his antics, they still love him.
    • Even when they think he's joking about seeing a flying saucer, they're clearly bewildered but are patient with what they think is his joke.
Fred: After [the flying saucer] took off, what happened?
Shaggy: The only logical thing: I ran. (Laughs)
    Scooby: Re too!
Scrappy: Awww, you were just tryin' to protect me, right unk?
Scooby: Ruh...sure. Rehehehe. (pats Scrappy on the head)
  • In "Shiver and Shake, That Demon's a Snake", Scooby, Shaggy and Scrappy take part in a parade in New Orleans. Scrappy spots Velma disguised as a traffic cop and excitedly waves and calls out to her.
    • Earlier, after evading monster hunting under the pretense of watching Scrappy, Scooby is confused when Shaggy tells Scrappy the monster will be here soon. Shaggy explains he said so just because he knew it would make Scrappy happy. (Which also becomes funny when Shaggy is accidentally correct)
See? Look how happy he is.
  • "The Demon of the Dugout" has Scrappy riding on Scooby's back.
  • In "I Left My Neck in San Francisco", Daphne is suspected of being the vampire due to bearing an uncanny resemblance to it and always disappearing to rest or get a drink when the vampire appears, saying she's sick. Shaggy and Scooby are a bit frightened of her, and Scrappy is suspicious. At the end, it's revealed that Daphne was not the vampire: She was really just sick. Scrappy reveals that they suspected her, and he and Shaggy offer their sincere apologies, which Daphne happily accepts. Scrappy asks if she feels better. She says she does and thankfully pets him. D'awww.
    • By comparison, Fred and Velma never once are shown doubting Daphne's innocence. D'aww again!
  • In "Lock the Door, It's a Minotaur!", Scrappy finds what he thinks is a silver coin and tries to use it to pay for the gang's dinner. At this stage in the series, he's often egotistical and oblivious, but he does love his friends.
  • In "Rocky Mountain Yiiii!" taking place on a cold, snowy mountaintop, Scrappy tries to follow Fred Velma, and Daphne down a cabin's trapdoor, Scooby pulls him back as usual...and then pushes him closer to the fire with a concerned look on his face.
  • "The Ransom of the Scooby Chief":
    • Scrappy's sheer joy of seeing his old neighborhood again and how he can't wait for Scooby to meet his friends.
    • Scrappy reuniting with his old friends Duke and Annie in New York. The trio are just so happy to see each other again.
    • How much does Scrappy love his uncle? He's willing to mount a rescue on his own.
    • Once Scooby and Shaggy are free, Scrappy runs up to his uncle and gives him a big hug.
    • When Scrappy bids farewell to Duke and Annie, Duke asks him to do the "secret whistle" one more time. It's both heartwarming and funny, as they're the only ones who can tolerate the Brown Note.
  • Just how much faith Scrappy has in his uncle. Of course his perception of Scooby isn't entirely accurate, but that doesn't make it any less sweet.
    • Heck, just Scooby and Scrappy's bond in general. You get the feeling that the others aren't sure how to break the truth about Scooby's Lovable Coward status gently to Scrappy.
  • In Mark Evanier's blog post on Scrappy's creation, he talks about his friendship with Scrappy's first voice actor Lennie Weinrib and how, despite the popular opinion, he likes the character he helped create:
When I watch one of those 1979 episodes, I can't possibly dislike Scrappy...because he makes me think of Lennie.
