Tear Jerker / Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo

• At the end of "The Scarab Lives!", when it's revealed that the Blue Scarab is Jerry Sloam's assistant, Sloam doesn't get angry, he just acts really disappointed. It's clear that Sloam trusted Howard Gruber a lot and this came as a genuine shock.
  Sloam: But why?
  Gruber: Why? If I could destroy the Scarab, I could have a chance to do my own character! I'm sick and tired of being your unknown assistant, Sloam!
  Sloam: I...I had no idea.
  • Scrappy is pretty upset that his hero has turned to crime. It's especially jarring because of how excited he was at the prospect of his hero coming to life and meeting him. At first after witnessing the Scarab menacing Shaggy and Sloam he seems fine, but then a couple of scenes later it finally dawns on him...
    Scrappy: The Blue Scarab, a criminal?!
  • The look◊ on his face doesn't help.
  • And consider this: If the gang hadn't solved the mystery, the Scarab would have gone out of print. It's mentioned The Blue Scarab is a quite popular comic book. A lot of people would probably have been very unhappy.
