Heartwarming / Macklemore

Go To

  • The music video for "Same Love", which is about gay marriage and equality of all people regardless of race or sexual preference. The video goes through the life of a man from when he is growing up. In his teens, he becomes confused and depressed because of his sexuality. He meets another man and they begin dating. Throughout the video they look very happy together and are eventually married. Then it flashes forward to their elderhood. One of the men is on his deathbed while the other sits by his bed holding his hand and shows that their love is strong after all these years.
    • Really the mere fact that a prominent artist in hip hop, a genre whose public face is rife with vile homophobia and sexism, would speak out in favor of gay rights is heartwarming.
    • Macklemore's (alongside Mary Lambert and iconic pop singer Madonna) performance at the 2014 Grammy Awards of "Same Love", with Queen Latifah presiding over the marriage of 33 homosexual and straight couples on the same night. Tears of joy were shed, gay and straight couples alike. Heartwarming indeed.
  • "Can't Hold us" begins with Macklemore saying "good to see you" to Ryan Lewis, and is largely about how he does everything he does is for his town.
  • Macklemore's parts in "White Walls" are pretty endearing in light of today's Glam Rap. While most contemporary rappers would brag on owning obscenely expensive cars like Bugattis and Maybach as a testament to how much better they are than you, Macklemore's aspirations are pretty modest yet heartwarming. He wanted a Cadillac like his Grandpa so he worked really hard to get enough money to buy one and now he can drive it around his hometown at night, thinking about how far he's come in life. It's clear he's more happy that he gets to live his dream than bragging about how badass he is.
  • After the Grammys, where Macklemore won Best Album, many felt Kendrick Lamar should have won the award. Macklemore himself agreed and said that not only should Kendrick have won, but he was going to say it on stage right there and then before getting cut off by music.
  • The music video for "Glorious", where Macklemore surprises his grandmother with a visit for her 100th birthday and gives her a good day, from egging a neighbor's house to winning an arcade game and having a male stripper at her party. The song itself is quite heartwarming as well, encouraging people to enjoy life and make the most out of the time they have.
  • Growing Up, a song dedicated Macklemore's daughter Sloane, is full of this. Not only does it radiate love and affection, but it also encourages children to learn about other cultures and open themselves up to new viewpoints.
  • Years later, Macklemore released NO BAD DAYS. Not only is the song very cheerful and lighthearted, but the music video is directed by Sloane. In it, Macklemore and Sloane goof around and do everything she wants to do, with both of them clearly having a blast.
