  • While the original title of the work simply referred to Machi as a female kohai, the localized title calls her Machi's "best friend" instead. Not only does it make it more understandable to a Western audience, but it also emphasizes that Hana is someone who was important to Machi, even before they got "married."
  • For much of Machi's life, she's put up with her mother's verbal abuse for failing to meet her expectations, but Mrs. Morimoto insulting Hana is one thing Machi won't stand for.
  • Machi's Character Development. She starts out as someone who just drifts through life, trying to please her parents to get them off her back, but her time with Hana makes her happier and more willing to assert herself, from taking on extra responsibilities to standing up to her mother.
