Searching for Dragons:

  • When Cimorene's best friend Kazul goes missing, neither scheming wizards nor faulty flying carpets will stop Cimorene from finding her.
  • Cimorene tells Kazul of her engagement with a little trepidation since Cimorene doesn't know how Kazul will feel about losing her princess. It turns out Kazul is more than happy for her having guessed sometime ago that Cimorene would be moving on now that she had gotten the dragon bureaucracy straightened out and Cimorene is someone who needs occupation.
  • More subtly, the fact that Kazul's response to Cimorene's engagement isn't "Oh I knew you'd be wanting to get married sooner or later," but instead, "Oh I knew you'd be getting bored and looking for a new challenge soon." In light of how Cimorene's family expected her to fulfill the traditional princess role of getting married and doing other hobbies Cimorene has no interest in, it's nice to see her supported by her best friend, who understands that marriage isn't Cimorene's primary goal in life, even if she did happen to fall in love.

Talking to Dragons:

  • At the end, when Daystar has freed his father, Mendanbar, from the enchantment and they're sorting through the aftermath, Mendanbar wants to talk to the Kazul, who's a little late because she was getting Cimorene, Mendanbar's wife whom he hasn't seen in seventeen years. Cue Mendanbar forgetting everything he meant to say to Kazul to hug and kiss Cimorene.
  • When Daystar finally deals with the wizard, Antorell, who's been causing trouble all through the book, by sending him to the demon dimension, Cimorene is a little surprised at the severity of Daystar's act, but both she and Mendanbar seem proud of his magical ability. (To be fair, Daystar didn't really know what he'd done with the wizard, just that he'd gotten rid of both Antorell and the the demon Antorell had summoned to dispose of Cimorene.)
