One of the subgenres of this franchise is a family show. This implies at least a small inoculation against cynicism in the plot, despite the really difficult conditions in which the characters work and survive.

The Series

  • Even though Gwizdo abuses Hector in so many ways, in "The Strange Taste of Cocomak" it's sweet to see Hector worried about Gwizdo when he gets depressed.
Hector: Gwizdo sad. Gwizdo go away.
  • Zaza telling Worrell in "The Conjunction of the Three Moons" that Gwizdo's not so bad once you get to know him and when it seems like Lian-Chu's looking after him, it's actually the other way around. Gwizdo overhears the entire thing and goes to give Lian-Chu a pep talk.
  • "The Kiwajel Thrust":
    • Gwizdo giving Zoria her share of the gold as a sign of respect for her skill and gratitude for helping him and Lian-Chu.
    • Earlier in the episode, Gwizdo is seen sleeping on the ground with Hector lying on top of him. The novelization describes them as ending up "squarely in each other's arms".
      • While this is going on, Zoria, in disguise, tells Lian-Chu that he was like a father to her.
  • "Gland of the Mimikar":
    • Gwizdo hugging Lian-Chu.
    • When Lian-Chu learns that Gwizdo risked everything to try and save him, he's genuinely touched. He doesn't mind the fact that Gwizdo lied to him all this time (to avoid scaring him).
  • Gwizdo deciding that all of his and Lian-Chu's earnings should be donated to Mother Hubbard's farm.
  • "Prince Charming!" has several of them:
    • Zaza and Gwizdo's fist bump, followed immediately by a warm embrace.
    • Hector embracing Zaza when he has to leave with Lian-Chu.
    • Gwizdo and Lian-Chu hugging when Gwizdo shows up on the scene. Hector joyfully pounces on Zaza at the same moment.
  • Gwizdo, thinking Lord and Lady Richmond are his parents, confessing that he tried to con them in "The Family Fortune". The sweetest part is that, although they found their real son at that moment, he spreads out his arms with a big beaming smile on his face and cries, "Mommy! Daddy!"

The Movie

  • Gwizdo apologizing to Lian-Chu after berating him for knitting, admitting that he can't find a better friend than Lian-Chu and smiling warmly when he sees him starting to cheer up.
  • Reconciliation of Gwizdo and Zoe before the final battle despite Gwizdo's shock from the fact that now he's a victim of Zoe's "dying little girl" performance.
  • Reuniting of the team after their victory over the World Gobbler. Lian-Chu uses a Bear Hug where all his friends are placing perfectly.
  • Gwizdo warmly welcoming Zoe in his team after he stood up for her to Lord Arnold right before the ending.
