Heartwarming / Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Go To

Comic
  • While it's pretty obvious that Zelda and Hilda want Sabrina to join them as a witch and have a very weird way of showing their love for her, they clearly do love her:
    • They moved to a different coven specifically for Sabrina's sake.
    • When Sabrina's dark baptism is coming up, unlike in the series (in which she doesn't have much of a choice), Hilda and Zelda make it very clear that Sabrina does have a choice, and there is no real "wrong" choice. While Zelda mentions the downsides of being a mortal, Hilda mentions "You'll know true love. The possibility of it, at least."
    • During the dark trial, the aunts object that the tests of her innocence are unnecessarily cruel.
  • When Sabrina is sobbing in bed over Harvey's death, Salem is curled up next to her, and tells her later if she needs a cuddle or something to cry on, he's there.

The Prequel Novel Season of the Witch

  • Ambrose performing a Spell for Sabrina, to find out Harvey’s true feelings for her.
  • Prudence secretly dreams about having a family like Sabrina’s, who treat her with love and affection.
  • Zelda‘s view on Ambrose: He is her disgrace, her burden, her family’s bad apple. He is hers, and Zelda would kill anyone who tried to take him away.
  • Literally everything about Tommy Kinkle, he accepts Harvey for who he is and has no prejudices against the Spellman’s. Even though people say that Hilda is daft, Zelda is an old witch note , and that Ambrose is a sinner.
  • Dorothea Putnam viewed witches as lovely and beautiful creatures who spread magic all around.
Dorothea Putnam:The young witch came to me again yesterday, Ms. Wardwell read aloud. She speaks in riddles, but sweetly. She says she will be kind for my kindness to her kind. The crops this year looked to fail, but now we think the crops are flourishing late. Perhaps it is only chance, but everywhere the crops are growing now are places the young witch walked yesterday. I can see her now, Freya of the long hair and the summer song, with the edge of her gown lost in the green grass. Surely God made her. The devil could not make anything so lovely.

Chapter Two: The Dark Baptism

  • Ambrose clearly has a hard time dealing with Connor's corpse. When presenting the cleaned body to his parents, he's very sincere in hoping he did a good job, and offers the grieving parents tea.
  • Ambrose also defends Sabrina when she rejects the baptism, despite his own fright.
  • The look on Harvey's face when he sees Sabrina in her baptismal dress. You can pinpoint the second that his jaw hits the floor.

Chapter Five: Dreams in a Witch House

  • Zelda's nightmare isn't that Hilda beat her with a vegetable pie (It Makes Sense in Context), but the fact that she killed her and believes her dead for real is what makes it sad. Zelda pretty clearly loves Hilda, in spite of how she treats her.

Chapter Six: An Exorcism in Greendale

  • Susie going with her father to the asylum where he is planning to send her Uncle Jesse to make sure it's a good place and that he will be properly taken care of.
  • The shocked, uncertain look on Madam Satan's face after Sabrina thanks her for helping with the exorcism, which hints that she's never actually been thanked before. It's then horrifically subverted when she goes back to the Putnam home and murders Jesse in cold blood.
  • Zelda tries to stop Sabrina from performing the exorcism because the Church of Night forbids it, but changes her mind and shows up to help just when it looks like the ritual is going to fail.
Sabrina: Something's wrong. I'm not strong enough!
    Zelda: Yes, you are.

Chapter Seven: Feast of Feasts

  • Zelda telling Sabrina that if the latter had been chosen as queen of the feast, she would have defied the Dark Lord to save her.
Sabrina: What would have happened if it was me who was selected queen and not Prudence? Would you have let them do to me what was done to Mildred?
    Zelda: Never.
Sabrina: But if it was the Dark Lord's will?
    Zelda: It wouldn't have mattered.
  • The Weird Sisters, especially Prudence, show a bit of compassion to Sabrina for the moment when she saves Prudence's life.
  • Shortly before all this, a character called Mildred cuts her throat and the witches dive to eat her. Sabrina, naturally, looks disgusted, but even Zelda looks horrified.

Chapter Ten: The Witching Hour

  • Zelda says "The mortals may be weak, but they do not deserve this grim fate."
  • Sabrina's friends have realised that she's a witch who's been lying to them and wonder whether they can trust her. The mere fact that they give her a chance to explain herself says a lot about their friendship, but that's nothing compared to the way they both spontaneously hug her when she starts to break down in tears, all of their (perfectly reasonable) suspicions forgotten the second they see her in pain.
  • Zelda spirits Lady Blackwood's eldest child away as it's a girl and their fear what Father Blackwood could do to her for not being a boy. While this is Heartwarming in it's own right, even more Heartwarming is that, despite everything being an Heir Club for Men, Sabrina is the future of the Spellman family; the eldest daughter of the eldest son, the family heiress.

Chapter Eleven: A Midwinter's Tale

  • When Sabrina's late mother, Diana, reveals why she's been trapped in limbo all these years.
Diana: I was afraid you weren’t going to be loved and protected as I would have loved and protected you. But tonight, I saw. You are.
  • The Weird Sisters have completely patched up their problems with Sabrina and are now perfectly friendly with her, even gladly agreeing to help her hold a seance.
  • Gryla welcoming Bartel's victims to her family after saving Susie which count as Pet the Dog moment for her.
Daughter of Chaos
  • When Prudence & Nick passed Harvey Roz and Susie, Prudence wanted to tell Rosalind,
Prudence: Girl you are beautiful, you can do better. Don’t waste yourself on the witch-hunter.
Chapter Twelve: The Epiphany

Chapter Thirteen: The Passion of Sabrina Spellman

  • A small one, but when Sabrina refuses to obey the Dark Lord's commands to crush Dorcas with a sand bag so that she'll get the leading role in the play — she starts choking on the apple she's eating. Not only does Nick run over to see if she's alright, but Prudence does too. Her relationship with Sabrina has clearly come a long way since she tried to have her Harrowed.

Chapter Fourteen: Lupercalia

  • Theo coming out to his father as transgender. Although he's hesitant at first, he soon accepts this.
  • Zelda trying to boost Hilda's confidence after Dr. Cerberus rejects her and giving her a makeover to help her win him over.
  • Harvey teaching Theo how to wear a tie.
  • Billy genuinely apologizing to Theo after his near-death experience caused him to seriously rethink his life, and even complimenting his new haircut. And Theo accepting the apology without so much as a second thought.
Chapter Sixteen: Blackwood
  • Adam telling Madame Satan (who he thinks is Mary Wardwell) that he doesn't care if they get married or not, all that matters is that he gets to be with her and make her happy.

Chapter Seventeen: The Missionaries

  • Despite Roz and Harvey's paranoia that Sabrina is the one who made Roz go blind, when she has a vision of Sabrina being killed by one of the witch hunters, they're both horrified and rush to save her.
    • For that matter, Theo's loyalty to Sabrina. His reaction to Roz and Harvey's paranoid beliefs is to call them out on it, citing all the good Sabrina has done.
  • When Sabrina is Killed by the witch hunters, the Weird Sisters were saddened and shocked showing that they have overcome their disdain and dislike for Sabrina.

Chapter Eighteen: The Miracles of Sabrina Spellman

  • Prudence utters perhaps the nicest string of words she's ever said to anyone while visiting Ambrose before his execution. It's still probably not that comforting to Ambrose under the circumstances, but at least she tried:
    Ambrose: Prudence...I'm frightened.
Prudence: Don't be. You live with honor. You'll die with it too. Satan keep you.

Chapter Twenty: The Mephisto Waltz

  • Zelda finally lives up to her proclamation back in "Feast of Feasts" that she'd choose Sabrina's well-being over the Dark Lord's will. When she learns that Satan intends to make Sabrina his bride, she is disgusted, and is the first one to declare that they'll fight back against him. She says it will happen over her dead body, and given the context, that is not hyperbole.
  • Lilith bringing the real Mary Wardwell back to life as a gift to Sabrina for helping her claim her role as Queen of Hell.
  • Harvey, Roz, and Theo (and Salem!) immediately agreeing to help Sabrina rescue Nick.
  • Sabrina doesn't care if Edward wasn't her true father, cause he was a better one than Lucifer/The Dark Lord.
  • Prudence, upon discovering that her father had poisoned the rest of the coven, immediately disavows him and promises vengeance. Her only hesitation being when he reminded her of her two younger siblings. And upon finding the others poisoned, she becomes absolutely hysterical at the sight of Agatha and Dorcas dying. For all that she can be conniving and cruel, she does genuinely care about her Weird Sisters and holds a true loyalty to her coven.
    • Hell, even before that - Prudence intends to murder Father Blackwood and how does she go about attempting this? By obtaining the help of the two people she cares for most - Agatha and Dorcas. If she's going to do this, she's going to do it with them.

Chapter Twenty Two: Drag Me to Hell

  • Sabrina deciding to send Mr. Robertson, a lonely old man who sold his soul to the devil, to Heaven instead of Hell.

Chapter Twenty Seven: Judas' Kiss

  • Robin revealing his true hobgoblin self to Theo.

Chapter Twenty-Eight: Sabrina Is Legend

  • Credit to Hecate, Goddess of Witchcraft and Crossroads. She heard the cry for help, and came to help.
