Headscratchers / World's End Harem

The world building in this series doesn't make sense. Why are there refugees and food shortages? Half the population literally died. That means there should be twice as much food and space left for those that survived. And why is technology degrading? Even with the male population dead, there are still female scientists, engineers and such in the world. And the knowledge didn't die with those males scientists that died. All of that study would have been documented and still available. And why are the woman so lustful? It's only been 5 years. It would be different if it had been 50 years, but just 5 years?

  • You'd be surprised how heavily male dominated some STEM fields are (especially engineering), papers are one thing, but having the know how is a something else altogether. Granted, the deterioration in 5 years seems a bit exaggerated

  • You ever have half the people at work catch the flu and you’re suddenly understaffed and scrambling to cover shifts? It’s absolute pandemonium and while in the long term you can totally bring in new employees a lot can go wrong in the short term. When the virus first hit you would have had chaos with key jobs and positions being suddenly empty and new people having to hurriedly step in and essentially being thrown into the deep end to figure it out for themselves. While all men are dying you’ve gotta figure their mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters are also freaking out. Fields go fallow and other mundane but key work goes undone while people scramble to figure out what’s happening and just aren’t concerned with these matters in the face of mass death. It’s less that society couldn’t function without men and more that the panic and confusion caused by half the population suddenly dropping like flies caused secondary tragedies that the world still hasn’t quite recovered from. Now on the horny angle, that’s mostly for the fan service. Though there is a precedent for people going ‘must have children’ in the wake of large tragedies or wars. It’s why baby boomers are a thing.
