Headscratchers / Undertale the Musical

  • Okay, maybe I'm just stupid, but in "Power of NEO", Mettaton tells the human child "You're not truly evil. You were trying to be, you messed up." or something like that. Is that just him mocking the human child for failing to stop Alphys from evacuating the underground? Failing to kill someone who managed to escape doesn't mean you're not truly evil, so what exactly does this mean? Is it possibly foreshadowing? Is it Mettaton trying to reason that the Underground isn't really doomed, wanting to die believing everyone will be okay? Am I just dumb and reading too much into it?
    • It's the dialogue from when you don't kill enough monsters in the Genocide route before killing Mettaton NEO. In the context of the game, it indicates "after all this time you didn't do what you were doing before and go back and forth making absolutely sure there was no one left to kill, long after any sane person would have just stopped and moved on." In the context of the musical, Mettaton's entire purpose for being there is one big You Shall Not Pass! to help Alphys evacuate as many people as she can - and the longer he keeps talking, the more people escape. It's all for nothing at the end because the human child attacks again and again anyway, setting them back on the Genocide path.
  • In "Now's Your Chance to Be A," why does Spamton say "This deal must die?" Wouldn't a deal "dying" mean that it was cancelled by one of the parties involved before it came to fruition? Why would a salesman want that?
    • The "die" is in Spamton's brackets, which have a tendency to cut him off mid-sentence. Sometimes it results in an Astonishingly Appropriate Interruption, but other times it simply spouts nonsense, like here. Also worth mentioning is that the clip is sampled from Ganon's voice lines, which are a rather prominent meme. This interruption is little more than a joke.
