Headscratchers / Star Trek Voyager S 1 E 13 "Faces"

Go To

  • One has to wonder why Sulan specifically chose Durst over Paris as the one whose face he thought would appeal to Torres more, given that Paris is pretty clearly the more classically handsome of the pair. He finds Torres attractive, so Vidiians aren't exempt from the franchise-wide open season on Interspecies Romance, which means he ought to be able to gauge human attractiveness. Even if he couldn't, you'd think he would have defaulted to the larger, fitter specimen given all of Torres's talk about Klingon warrior culture.
    • He probably scanned both of them and chose the one whose bone structure was a better match for his own. That's likely Durst, as they're played by the same actor.
    • It's not Sulan who selects Durst, it's the guard he sends to get him. At first he looks like he's about to take Paris, then he sees Durst and takes him instead. Presumably Sulan just said, "bring me one of the human males," and left it up to the guard, who decides Durst is a better match. Maybe matching bone structures is a relevant skill if you're a Vidiian guard.
    • When she woke up, B'Elanna asked after "Durst... Paris?" in that order. Sulan may have concluded that she was closer to Durst and that his face would therefore be more attractive to her.
