Headscratchers / Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

Go To

  • The Creeper's motivation makes so little sense even by Scooby Doo logic. Why is he robbing a bank that he's the president of? It's not like the dude's a caretaker, farmer or career thief, look at his house. Why is he sabotaging his own business for a measly more money than he already makes?
    • Several possible reasons. First, the bank might have already been doing poorly, and he was trying to ensure his own financial security before it went under. Or, alternately, he could have been staging very public thefts counting on insurance and the FDIC to replace what he'd taken with no one the wiser to his misdeeds.

  • If the ghost in the well was just a balloon, how did Penrod Stillwall get it to wail like a ghost?
    • He was probably down in the secret passage when he overheard the gang up above. He set the "ghost" to rising from the well from down below, while making the wailing sounds himself or played a spooky recording. The echoes from the well's shape made it hard to tell precisely where the sound was coming from.

  • When exactly did Jefferson Stillwall live? It seems to imply the Civil war. However, there is a journal entry from 1822 which was almost half a century before the civil war.
    • There's nothing to specify that Stillwall lived during the Civil War, only that he lived in the South. You may be confusing "Haunted House Hang-Up" with "A Night Of Fright Is No Delight", which did contain many Civil War references.

  • What exactly is the relationship between the Weatherbee and Kingston families?

  • How does a mini sub make a giant ship sink like that?

  • In ‘Bedlam in the Big Top’, Shaggy says that Daphne cannot ride a bicycle, so how is it she was able to ride a unicycle when under the Ghost Clown’s hypnosis despite having poor prowess on an updated version of a unicycle?
    • Hypnosis can sharpen your focus. Daphne may not be able to ride a bicycle due to distractions and worry (see her driving efforts in Moon Monster Madness), but under hypnosis she may have had all the distractions cleared away and concentrate solely on balance.

  • How exactly did that secret passage work in Which Witch is Which? It seems like the building Daphne was in when she disappeared is separate from the boat which is where she was tied up. Someone would still have had to move her to the boat. Could also allow for fridge horror.
  • How did Roger Stevens get the phantom to appear on stage at the dance show if he was the villain? There was never any mention of an accomplice
    • It was a TV studio. Special effects. Holograms were already established in universe. It wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility for him to have rigged a trick camera.
  • Why did Roger Stevens keep playing Phantom? He'd stolen the money, he had a patsy in Grimsby. Why continue playing the part?
  • In the episode "Go Away, Ghost Ship!", was Shaggy's guess of "Yum, yum, yum, and a liverwurst a la mode!" really supposed to be the secret password to Redbeard's hideaway?
    • A good password is something other people would never guess. It's certainly "out there" enough to count.
    • The password might've consisted of just a portion of what Shaggy had said. He actually finds a liverwurst sausage inside the hideout; maybe Redbeard chose something from among the stolen cargo to act as his password, and the chosen word at that time just happened to be "liverwurst".
    • Also, we’re talking about vocal recognition tech from the late 60s. It’s not inconceivable that it wasn’t sophisticated enough to tell the actual password apart from any word that sounds remotely similar.
  • How did Shaggy's flying sandwich work? He audibly wished for a sandwich, and one floated towards him out of nowhere. Mustard even floated in when he requested that. Then when he wished for the sandwich to be cut, a suit of armour dropped its axe by itself, which cut the sandwich. The main villain of the episode had nothing to do with it, and it never got explained.
    • Probably a fantasy sequence. It wouldn't be the only time Shaggy hallucinated about food.
  • How exactly did Scooby drink everyone’s drink by sipping through his straw in A Clue for Scooby Doo. Nothing in the episode, or even the series indicates anything supernatural or superhuman, so how did Scooby manage to do it?
