  • So the movie begins in 1851. Texas had been a U.S. State since 1845 and The Mexican War had been fought establishing the Rio Grande as the border and the U.S. annexing much of the Southwest. How likely is it that a Mexican landholder would reasonably claim land in Texas, just because it had been once granted by the King of Spain?
