  • The game mentions in one of the "narrative" collectibles that Jack has a criminal past in America, and apparently spent time in Laos being trained how to use firearms. At the start of the game, he's capable of using a gun with lethal efficiency even without his powers, and has no real reaction when he's forced to kill someone. Granted, everyone in the game has a very "it's a video game" approach to the taking of human life, but this still begs the question: what has Jack been doing for the last six years?
    • The game is very vague about this, but my guess would be something with the criminal underworld, possibly as a bodyguard or enforcer of some kind. After the first shootout, he states that he's "been in a couple of tight spots", but also that "[I've] never had an army of pro gunmen shooting at me". The second one pretty much precludes anything like the military. There's also a reference in a narrative object to him getting arrested in 2015 for weapons-related charges, but the charges were dropped for unknown reasons. His boss pulling some strings, perhaps?
    • The reference to time spent in Laos, plus the fact that Jack presents the image of a very moral person, very likely means he was involved in some shady activities for moral reasons. With corruption and crime as rampant as it is in Laos, where one can get a ten year sentence for merely posting up posters asking for peaceful reforms one could see smuggling people out of the country, smuggling food supplies in or even helping any guerilla groups that form up. This would mean he's probably avoided fights with the military but possibly had gun fights with other, less savory, smuggling groups.

  • Here's one that took years to smack me upside the head; Why the hell did Paul bother to invent guns that can work in stutters!? Outside of the company, there's no one in the world who even knows the phenomenon even exists, let alone could have access to the company's stutterproofing technology; it's all based on William's countermeasure, which they've had sole access to since 2010. Jack is literally the only man on Earth to fire a stutterproofed bullet at, and they didn't exist, Monarch's goons(those giant power-armored mooks particularly) could engage in the Might Makes Right shenanigans, beating on Jack with blades and bludgeons they've spent decades practicing with. Hell, it would have been a fun game mechanic if stutterproofing didn't work on bullets, forcing Jack to engage in melee and time-power combat whenever a stutter hit. The final boss battle between Jack and Paul could have been straight out of Dragon Ball instead of a Stationary Boss, a Flunky Boss and a Tactical Suicide Boss all rolled into one. Hell, if he's that afraid of a rival time-power user, he could simply have added some kind of biometric safety to the stutterproofed guns like in Mirror's Edge Catalyst.
    • Because of the Shifters. Guns are not that useful against them (in fact, that's why you have the Power Armor wearing soldiers) but it's still better than nothing against the quantum monster that hates you.
