Headscratchers / Love, Simon

Go To

  • Why doesn't Simon just outright tell his friends, especially Abby, that he's being blackmailed from the start? He could just tell them what happened: That he forgot to log out of his mail account in the library and Martin discovered his e-mails, from which Martin learned about a secret he isn't ready to tell anyone yet. That he will tell the secret when he feels ready, promise, but that Martin has made screenshots of his e-mails and tries to blackmail him with leaking those photos and thereby his secret on Creek Secrets into hooking him up with Abby at the moment. If they are good friends, which they are made out to be, they should trust him and accept his secret. Either could Abby then pretend to get closer to Martin, "borrow" his phone (maybe by asking him if she could quickly call her mom about something important, but private) and give it to Simon for him to delete the screenshots, or Simon and Abby could just go up to Martin and talk to him, politely telling him that Abby doesn't feel romantically for him, that this won't change by blackmailing Simon and asking him to be a nice person and delete the screenshots himself. I don't think Martin is a Manipulative Bastard, but just has No Social Skillsnote , so it should be possible to reason with him.
