- When Natsuo talked to his mother in the hospital, did that really happen or was it all All Just a Dream?
The Ending (Unmarked Spoilers)
- Why did Rui throw away her relationship with Natsuo at the end?
- She didn't. After Natsuo heard the truth from Marie and Kiriya about Hina's feelings, he made the choice to dedicate his life to Hina (as she had done previously after he was stabbed). Rui eavesdropped on the conversation between Natsuo and Marie, so she realized this was what Natsuo truly wanted as well. Rui didn't let Hina win as much as move on without causing a fuss. Rui had been trying to understand true love from the very beginning of the manga, and she finally recognized it here when she let her love have what he truly wanted instead of continuing to fight. But nothing Rui could do at that point would have changed the outcome. She herself later simply said that she couldn't win.
- Did Natsuo marry Hina out of pity?
- No. He is directly asked this later and firmly denies it. Hina was the one he always wanted to be with, but after their breakup he was devastated and thought that door was completely closed to him. As he tells Hina at the end, he had to force himself not to see her romantically and several thought bubbles throughout the latter half of the manga show him doing exactly that, confirming that what he said is in fact the truth. He married Hina out of love, not pity.
- But didn't Natsuo already know Hina's true feelings? Shuu told him. And he still chose Rui.
- Natsuo didn't trust Shuu. That's why he was going to confront Hina in order to get an answer from her at the park. When Hina waffled on giving him a straight answer, he got scared and backed off. Immediately afterwards, he was confronted by Kajita who told him about Rui's struggles in New York and that if Natsuo wasn't going to her, he would. So Natsuo was forced to make a decision quickly and went for the sure thing in Rui (he knew Rui still loved him because Al told him she was still wearing her pendant) over the unknown in Hina. He did choose Rui, but he did it on the spur of the moment without having all of the information. It wasn't an informed choice. We know he still had feelings for Hina because of the way he reacted at the park. If he didn't, it wouldn't have mattered what Hina said, and he would have no reason to run away.
- What happened to Rui and Haruka at the end of the series?
- As shown in the bonus chapter Days with Hina, Rui and Haruka move out so that Hina and Natsuo can have the privacy to have a normal married life. Word of God said on social media that they moved in with Rui's parents.
