• In a way, the Commander's very first appearance in the prologue can qualify as this. After the prologue describes the defenses and security measures of the black site where he's imprisoned and how much of a danger he was to have warranted such measures, he's immediately introduced sitting on a couch, wearing only a shirt, shorts and socks, and watching the Super Bowl.
• Patricia's first promotion in Chapter 7 also counts; just a few hours earlier, she had sparred with him, without knowing who he was (and delivering a good beating in the process). Her reaction upon learning that the man she beat up was none other than the Commander of XCOM is priceless. She ends up dragging Paige out afterwards to tell her, completely mortified.
  • And it's clear the Commander found it funny too, if his smile when handing Patricia her specialist papers is any indication.
  • Just before the promotions, Shawn also had a great quip when they entered the room to find an empty desk where the Commander was supposed to be:
    Shawn: Behold. The great invisible Commander.
• Chapter 17: Marten El-Amin is introduced: XCOM's youngest soldier, and nosey as all hell. He asks a lot of questions.
  • The squad for his first mission also includes Luke. Sure enough, the first question he asks on the Skyranger:
    "So, you're actually the Luke Warner?"
• Chapter 18: Prior to the Council mission in France, Shawn stumbles upon Nero's personal quarters in the Citadel, including his armor. He seizes the opportunity by drawing a smiley face on helmet. With a sharpie. When he shows up for the mission later on, the rest of his teammates arrive after him, all in varying stages of amusement... and Nero is coming right behind them. Even Mira sounded like she was trying not to laugh when she first saw it.
  • For extra awkwardness, Shawn also ends up sitting across from the sniper during the Skyranger flight. Everyone else but Mira finds it extremely amusing. Poor Shawn.
