Story

  • When Alain tries to convince Nina to make peace with her sister, she has a... colorful way of telling him off.
Nina: I'll not take counsel from a blue-haired fop, thank you! As if you could possibly understand the pain I've suffered... I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life!
    • In Alain and Nina's second rapport, the curse happened... on her.
  • Beaumont when his soldiers have managed to captured every single old woman in the swamp EXCEPT their target. Even better is that the camera pans over to show all the old women they've captured.
"What am I supposed to do with a bunch of unmagicked octogenarians!?"
  • During "The General in Black", a sellsword known as Aramis saves a prisoner named Primm by freeing her from her jail cell. He leads her for a way and then leaves after thinking she is safe... except it turns out he dropped her off right in the middle of an active battlefield.
Primm: Who leaves a girl to fend for herself in the middle of a war?
    • She chews him out for it a bit afterward if they are both recruited, Aramis admitting he can be rather absentminded when it comes to the people around him.
  • Recruiting Melisandre is this from start to finish, be it her repeatedly Eating the Eye Candy that is Alain, or Alain putting his foot in his mouth with phrasing that makes it sound like he is asking her to be his lover. Not to mention how Alain can shut off her reinforcements by simply locking a gate before the battle. Then there is the request she makes of him regarding once he becomes king, which leads to the blushing Alain clearly struggling to maintain his composure while she exhibits No Sense of Personal Space.
Melisandre: Oh, don't worry - I'm not asking to be queen. Just one of the few dozen consorts every king calls upon.
Alain: Fascinating, yes. Let's... discuss it another time, shall we?
  • Recruiting Tatiana is mostly a dreary affair given the subject matter, but toward the end there is a funny bit of Lampshade Hanging regarding how forgiving Alain is when Tatiana expresses that she is joining to observe Alain and to eventually watch him die.
Lex: C'mon, only an idiot would let you-
    Alain: Very well then.
Lex: Should've known that was coming.
  • Alain isn't the only one to awkwardly word recruitment requests, with Celeste declaring "till death do us part" when affirming her loyalty to him.

Rapports

  • Alain and Railanor's first rapport conversation is Railanor grilling Alain over what he may feel towards Rosalinde, who is smitten with him.
Alain: ...If pressed for an answer, I'd say she's a fine ally indeed in the fight against Zeinora.
    Railanor: And what else?
Alain: You want more?!? In that case I do suppose she stands awfully close to me at times. Though she does speak softer than most so it makes sense she stands closer. Unless perhaps there's a deeper reason for that.
  • A rapport conversation between Yahna and Chloe involves the former winding up buying an outfit that's too small for her to wear. Chloe offers to take it so as to not let it go to waste. That is, until Yahna shows that it's what heavily hinted as a Stripperific outfit, making Chloe nervous, prompting her to say of course it won't fit Yahna since there's so little fabric on it. Yahna states it's for someone with a slimmer waist and thought Chloe could manage it before asking her to try it on. Before Chloe could even consider it, Lex runs in, saying not to go through with it as there are things the world should not see. Then Scarlett runs in, saying that Chloe shouldn't whore herself out to look pretty.
  • Lex's first rapport conversation with Scarlett isn't even really a conversation but a nightmare Lex is having over what a Lethal Chef she is. Accompanied by music from a horror movie, he comes upon Chloe who proceeds to vanish from the screen like a defeated enemy unit, as if Scarlett's food (beef and goat milk stew) knocked her out. Scarlett emerges with a frighteningly dissonant amount of cheer as she targets Lex as her next taste tester and grabs him with sudden superhuman strength. Alain arrives and Lex begs for help, but in the face of Scarlett's food, Alain can only turn around and run. Lex is about to meet his fate, when he wakes up with a scream. His relief is short-lived though, as the real Scarlett now emerges apparently intent on asking him to do something. The horror music starts up again and Lex flees.
Lex: Stay away from me, monster!
  • Alain and Hilda's rapport features her wyvern biting at his hair, something she assures him is an act of affection that it does to her as well when she is feeling sad. It proves rough enough though that Alain's head is bleeding by the end and he decides to not accept comfort from a wyvern again.
  • Umerus and Eltolinde's support goes from mundane to hilariously disturbing as the latter describes some events from her stressful childhood. Desiring a garden yet not having much freedom outside, she made a garden of mushrooms in the basement which she describes as if it were a lovely flower garden, and which her attendant burned up upon discovering. Eltolinde tells this in the tone of a traumatic childhood tragedy, while Umerus thinks it was a reasonable thing to do. The attendant then let Eltolinde have a small section of garden to herself, only for the young elf to display a surprisingly petty sense of vengeance by planting mint, which she knew would eventually take over the garden and ruin the plants the attendant was growing. Eltolinde walks off in a great mood from recounting her triumph of destroying that garden just as hers was destroyed, while Rosalinde pops in to apologize to Umerus for the odd story. She also explains she was the one who told the attendant about Eltolinde's mushroom garden, and advises not to let her know that was the case.
  • In a conversation with Hodrick, Alain expresses anxiety about failure. To put him at ease, Hodrick tells a story of a drinking contest he participated in when he was younger and wilder. No one wanted to lose and it got to a point where they were all so drunk that one of them fell down the stairs and started bleeding everywhere, causing someone else to laugh so hard he wet himself, while the third person blacked out and woke up outside with no memory and no clothes. Alain laughs and thanks Hodrick for helping him feel better. He then asks which of the three Hodrick was. Hodrick refuses to answer. Alain wonders where Hodrick got that scar on his face. Hodrick also doesn't answer that.
    • In Lex and Hodrick's rapport, it turns out his scar was from a completely unrelated, more serious incident. Meaning he actively chose not to clarify, probably because it was funnier.
  • In their rapport, Ramona sees Fran's griffin taking advantage of being in a desert by taking a dust bath. This tempts Ramona's instincts to do the same. She tries to resist, being a dignified person, before caving in. Cue Fran walking in on her taking off her clothes. Ramona yells at her not to come any closer and, extremely embarrassed, concludes that the desert is too dangerous a place to be in.
  • Alain and Scarlett talk about the woods where he and Lex used to play as children. How they made swords out of tree branches and ate the tree nuts they found until their stomachs hurt. Alain finds the memory a bit embarrassing. Then Lex walks in and says that his stomach's bothering him "for some reason". Scarlett, exasperated, calls him "a slave to his habits".
Scarlett: Please tell me you haven't been eating any nuts, at least.
Alain: Erm... No, of course not.
  • Rolf finds Auch practicing a shapeshifting spell. After a bit of bickering, Auch finally makes it work and changes himself into a chicken! ...And then can't change himself back. Rolf wonders who to ask for help turning Auch back, and then worries that someone might snatch Auch up to eat if he's left alone. This causes Auch to panic and run off... towards Chloe, who's cooking, leading Rolf to scramble after him.
