In a bit of Black Comedy humor, when Steve tries to contact Carly Beth while he's wearing the old man mask, he gets mistaken for a Dirty Old Man who's out to get Carly Beth. When he tries to call her, her father answers and is very uneasy about it, telling him that she can't come to the phone. And when he tries to contact her in person on Halloween night:
Carly Beth: Who are you?
Steve: It's me! I-
Carly Beth: (highly suspicious) Are you the man who tried to call me earlier?
Steve when under control of his old man mask can be pretty funny in general, such as the way he tries to rapidly brush the spiders off his face while crying out in his distorted voice "Get off me! Get off me!" Then when Steve tries to get a random boy (thinking Steve is some old drunk) to take it off...
Steve: Underneath my shirt... there should be a line... There has to be a line!
Boy: I don't know what you're talking about. There is no line.
