  • In the pilot episode, a man taunts Caine, asking why he doesn't say anything and jeering that no words mean no thoughts. Caine responds with the most polite "shut up" ever.
Caine: If one's words are not better than silence, one should keep silent.
  • Caine is the politest bank robber ever.
  • In one episode, he politely bows to a white man in thanks. The man bows back, then as Caine turns away, spreads his hands, his whole posture clearly saying, "What the heck?"
  • In "Flight to Orion," Caine is attacked by four men while he's sitting down, meditating. He doesn't even have to get up to send them sprawling, with an expression that just screams "completely done with your nonsense."
  • Tamo the hermit is a walking source of funny moments. First, he is introduced as an Incoming Ham. Kwai Chang and some fellow students are practicing kata together when Tamo bellows for Master Kan, pounds on the doors, and almost breaks them down.
    • Later, after having been knocked tail over teakettle by Master Po, Tamo announces that he feels no shame at having been beaten by a blind man, although he's seventy-seven and not as young as he used to be.
Master Kan: Master Po sympathizes entirely, I am sure. He is eighty-three.
    • Tamo then gets down to business and tells the council that he will need at least five men to come with him. Master Po volunteers.
    • Upon being captured, one of the warlord's soldiers tries to give Tamo a Tap on the Head to knock him out. Tamo just growls, "you're going to need a bigger rock," while the soldier makes a hilariously confused face.
    • Nan-Chi asks Tamo if he has ever been married. Tamo tells her that he once shared his cave with a female mountain lion, whom he threw off the cliff when she bit him. Nan-Chi finds it Actually Pretty Funny.
  • Caine has been sentenced to death by a brujo (dark magic practitioner) in one episode, who performs an incredibly hammy magical ceremony and declares that "when that shadow falls upon you in an hour's time, you will die!" Caine just sits down to meditate inside the man's magic circle, and when the shadow falls upon him, he just shrugs and tips his head in a "yeah? Now what?" kind of gesture.
  • Master Po catches a young Caine after the latter was in a fight. Caine sheepishly explains that a fellow student called him "oil and water" for his mixed heritage.
Master Po: And this made your nose bleed?
