"I'm awake now, why would you think that would work?"

Even in a grim post-apocalypse, there are laughs to be had.

Episode 1: Heaven and Hell

  • Kiruko breaks open their last canned food, to Maru's delight, but supplements it with a few local herbs she found and thinks are edible. It turns out that if they are, they are so bitter that they ruin the taste of the entire meal.
    • Later, Maru wishes for some food that actually tastes good, which Kiruko takes offense to. Maru quickly apologizes since he didn't mean it like that, though Kiruko bemoans that boys are always saying stuff like that even without meaning it.
  • Kiruko threatens some bandits into giving them directions and letting her use their generator to charge her battery. Then once the battery is charged, she reveals that it's the battery to the gun, meaning that she had spent the last few hours threatening them into compliance with a gun that was out of ammunition.
    • The bandits initially think both Maru and Kiruko are woman, with unwholesome intentions. Maru corrects them that he's a boy, which they recognize. Then Kiruko tries the same, with the bandits firing back that they're not stupid. Becomes doubly funny after The Reveal next episode.
  • In the inn, Kiruko strips naked before a mirror and leans in to kiss her reflection... only for the innkeeper to burst in, causing her to lose her balance and smash her face into the polished surface. She quickly claims that she was just inspecting a crack in the mirror.
    • The innkeeper was stopping by to give Kiruko some soaps in case she wants to clean up ("The one that foams up nicely is the shampoo"). Cut to Kiruko staring at an entire table of soap bottles clearly at a loss to what she's supposed to pick.
  • The innkeeper notices the closeness between the two, and that Maru calls Kiruko "sis", and during dinner sits them down to tell them that, while they might not have been educated about it, having children with someone you're closely related to is dangerous. Cue hillarious facial expressions as Kiruko explains that she and Maru are not related, or dating for that matter, and the innkeeper being very embarassed about the misunderstanding.

Episode 2: Two Confessions

  • Kiruko and Maru crosses a great body of water along their way, but while paddling across, Maru idly wonders if there are crocodiles or sharks in the water. Kiruko tries to claim that there isn't, only for Maru to remark that if he were a crocodile, he would eat Kiruko first. They are both in a rush to paddle across after that.
    • When they reach the farm, one of the farmhands asks how they got across the great fault. Kiruko says they paddled, and the farmhand says that was dangerous because there are crocs in the water. Maru and Kiruko have a hushed angry conversation while the farmhand laughs.
  • Kiruko mentions that Maru's look-alike probably isn't there since no one reacts to his face, with Maru hadn't considered. Just then a villager walks by and shocked exclaims "That face!"... while looking at Kiruko, recognizing her as the go-cart racer Kiriko Takehaya.
    • When the villager says a bit too much and makes Kiruko uncomfortable, Maru grabs the photo he has of Kiriko and tells him that they look nothing alike... and then looks at the photo and realizes Kiriko and Kiruko look identical, only with different haircolours.
  • Kiruko asks the villager if he knows of a place called Heaven. He immediately responds with "right here", annoying her. He then thinks over it a bit before saying Asakusa during Kiriko Takehaya's era. Kiruko responds by taking his hand and genuinely thanking him, while he stands there starstruck.

Episode 3: Kiriko and Haruki

  • One of Haruki's friends is a young girl with three watches on each arm. When Haruki asks what time it is, she takes a second to figure out what watch is the right one. And it turns out the right watch is the one furthest up her right arm, which would be extremely invonvenient to read.

Episode 4: Kuku

  • With the gun out of ammunition, Kiruko tells Maru that they'll defeat the man-eater with his Maru-touch. Maru has no idea what she means until she clarifies that she means how he can touch man-eaters and kill them, making him even more annoyed that she doesn't actually have a plan. After they defeat it, Maru remarks that "Maru-touch" is a really bad name.
  • The fact that they defeat the man-eater using pounds and pounds of dried marijuana.
  • Kiruko and Maru find a bar of Yōkan, a kind of candy. After Kiruko taste tests it to see if it's edible, Maru smiles and says that "You can eat it." Kiruko goes dead-eyed and drops the bar in response.
    • Kiruko makes a soup with the Yōkan and bread. Maru suggests that they should name it, and Kiruko suggests "Bread-kan soup."
Maru: (Contemplative) Right, the way you name things is the worst.

Episode 5: Day of Fate

  • Maru is playing an old arcade game when he's harassed by a few thugs demanding that he talk to them. He opens by asking if they've ever had a girl they like turn out to be a guy.
Thug: Uuuh... Can't say I've experienced that.
  • When the thugs get too uppity, Maru punches one in the face before kicking him while he's down. The other thugs apparently don't mind the punch, but they thought the kick was excessive. Maru actually agrees and goes to apologize.
  • After Tarao is cremated, the doctor bursts into the Director's office to say that she has to see something. She brushes him off... only for the doctor to grab her wheelchair and roll her screaming through the hallways anyway. Especially hillarious given the expression on the normally dignified director.

Episode 6: 100% Safe Water

  • Maru tries to use his maru-touch to kill a monster, doing so with an overly dramatic gesture and yelling "Fatal Dive" so loud that it echoes. Kiruko meanwhile is looking at him with an expression that screams "What the hell are you doing?".
    • Turns out the monster is a wild animal and not a Hiruko. Maru is left staring awkwardly for a second as the beast looks at him, before screaming and running away.
    • Once they get to safety, they proceed to have a mutual Freak Out at the danger they were just in, complete with squishing each others' faces.
  • After dropping her battery from the pillar they're hiding on, Kiruko asks Maru if he sees her as a man or a woman. He admits that he sees her as a woman, only for her to cheer and tell him that he gets to touch her boobs if he gets the battery for her. He has jumped off the pillar before she can finish the sentence.
    • After picking up the battery, Maru strikes a pose and smiles confidently at Kiruko. She has the exact same expression as when he did his "Fatal Dive" thing earlier.
    • Maru later attempts to cash in on this favor, only for Kiruko to alternate between reluctantly honoring her promise "as a man" and repeatedly pointing to an old picture of her as Haruki as the person whose boobs Maru wants to fondle. Maru's response is to completely ignore that and claim his reward... only for Kiruko to audibly yell out in a very girly manner, which both of them mentally take note of.
  • After she kills the bear, Kiruko jokes that the battery was charged by Maru's "horny energy" and makes a cutesy pose.

Episode 7: The Immortal Order

  • Maru tries to write a sign advertising them as man-eater-killers, but messes up the grammar so it instead says that they kill and eat men. While correcting it, Kiruko recounts how she made the same mistake back in Tokyo and it resulted in her getting an angry mob on her ass after some guy turned up dead.
  • While Maru is lost in thought, Kiruko asks what he's thinking of. When he notes that he was thinking of how to split the fish they're grilling between them, Kiruko laments that he always looks cool until he opens his mouth and reveals himself as a doofus. Maru asks to try again, but the moment has passed.
  • Maru thinks that Kiruko is acting unlike herself due to having a lead on the Doctor, remarking that she's becoming more like Haruki. Kiruko gets up from the bath and yells that she's always Haruki, before walking out of the room. While being completely naked, with the framing showing her crotch moving directly past Maru's eyes, much to his shock.
    • Later, Maru thinks that there's something fishy going on and tries to think it out. Gilligan Cut to him and Kiruko sleeping in very close quarters in a tiny room, with him having a hard time focusing.
  • While the scene is very dramatic, the sudden cut from Kiruko passing out after screaming while hallucinating herself being eaten by man-eaters to the awkward silence when she wakes up with Maru kissing her is hillarious in how abrupt it is.
    • Later, while Kiruko is a bit lost, Maru tries to kiss her again. She immediately slaps him with a very loud sound-effect and the hillarious expressions seen above.
Kiruko: I'm awake now, why would you think that would work? Are you stupid?
