• Sully (and his mother) depicted as racists against black people and disgusted with Mickey for cheating on his wife with a black woman represents the many claims that city of Boston is the most racist city in the United States.
• Sean Walker couldn't go to jail for for killing his old girlfriend, Colleen Dawson. His acting career would've been ruined.
• Ray is obviously emulating his father's ways.
• The three main Donovan men have inherited a trait from their father, Mickey:
  • Ray being a awful husband like his father was with his dying mother.
  • Terry having unrequited love with Frances like Mickey has with Claudette.
  • Bunchy being impulsive like Micky, resulting in terrible situations
• Easily Forgiven: Even though it was Sean Walker, Ray doesn't blame him for killing his old girlfriend, Colleen Dawson, and instead blames Mickey, who got Sean high in the first place.
