Fridge / Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

  • Donkey Kong and Vector are rivals in these games. What are the main enemies in the first three Donkey Kong Country games? The Kremlings, which are crocodiles just like Vector. Seems further implied since Vector is represented by K. Rool in the Chaotix’ spirit battle.
  • Why does Sonic simply not reach the finish line within seconds? He's only running at a fraction of his top speed so that everyone else has a chance of winning. But then why isn't Shadow winning all of the races effortlessly, considering he's depicted in the Sonic series as being one of the few beings (if not the only one) who can go toe-to-toe with Sonic in a race? He's doing it because beating Sonic when he's holding back wouldn't mean much.
  • Bowser Jr. and Metal Sonic, who both became playable in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, have a few parallels. Bowser Jr. is an All-Around type, like Mario, but he's Bowser's incredibly loyal and most likely rather young son, and he spent most of his debut as Mario's Criminal Doppelgänger thanks to a (most likely magical) disguise. Meanwhile, Metal Sonic is a Speed type, like Sonic, but he's Eggman's somewhat treacherous creation (or rebellious teenage son) built as an Evil Knockoff of Sonic.
  • The other two additional characters, Donkey Kong and Silver, share types with their respective franchise's antagonists.
  • The two Dream Events in Tokyo 2020 are based not only on Olympic Events, but also their home series. The Dream Racing event in Metropolis is Skateboarding meets Sonic Riders, while the Dream Karate in the Mushroom Kingdom is Karate meets Mario Party.
  • How did Donkey Kong, of all people, fix up E-123 Omega in the 3DS version of London 2012? He carried him all the way to one of Funky Kong's workshops, and Omega either didn't realize or care enough to make the distinction between the Kongs.
