  • King Boo's Luigi's Mansion look being labeled as a separate character from his regular look may explain his different appearances and personalities (Loyal follower of Bowser with some animosity towards Luigi (King Boo holds Luigi's key in Super Mario 64 DS, he and Luigi have bad chemistry in the Baseball games and he specifically challenges Luigi in the DS version of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games) vs. Sadist who wants revenge on Luigi for his defeats).
  • Why did the Lucky Seven return in this game? After all, its theme and concept played into the name of Mario Kart 7, and with Mario Kart 8 outright replacing it with the Crazy Eight, one might assume a non-numbered game would drop the idea or pull from the most recent game. Even with Tour pulling a great deal of content from 7, though, the Lucky Seven's presence makes much more sense when considering the Frenzy mechanic, as it is, in essence, a slot machine take on the usual item rolling (if you get 3 of the same item, you essentially get a jackpot). This makes the Lucky Seven a great fit for the game - no wonder why it returned instead of the Crazy Eight!
  • Why does Birdo (Red) have the Birdo's Egg and Birdo (Green) have the Fire Flower as their specials? Super Mario Bros. 2 featured both of these colors, as well as the standard pink, as bosses. The pink Birdo could only shoot out eggs, the green Birdo could only shoot out fireballs, and the red Birdo was able to shoot out both. Hence, their specials correlate to their main attack from that game.
