    Fridge Brilliance

For Their Sakes

  • Bakugo/Orange uses his Explosion Quirk from his hands, while Hawks uses it with his feathers. Of course he does: Hawks' wings and feathers contain the offensive aspect of his Quirk.
  • Orange's personal hatred toward Endeavor makes sense and it's not only because of his friendship with Shoto. Bakugo knows he could have become like Endeavor if he let his desire to win become more important than everything else. That and Hawks smiling even as Endeavor pushed him around probably reminded Bakugo of his past self and Deku.
  • Future Hawks never broke under torture and managed to keep a level enough head to subtly warn the Heroes about an upcoming attack. Turns out he was trained to resist interrogation by the Commission.
  • Whether they realize it or not, the Voices' nickname of "Gold" for Hawks might hint at their desire to see him as the next Number One Hero and not Endeavor. "Gold" is for first place and they don't want Endeavor to have it.

Mockingjay: Origin

  • Gale Hawthorne's Hero name hints at both his Quirk and his true destructive nature. Put together, it's a term used for hurricane-type winds. Separately, it has a different meaning. "Gale" originates from an old Norse word meaning "mad, frantic, or bewitched" (referring to Gale's fanatical mindset about the corruption of American Hero Society). And "force" can mean using violence. Just like Gale, his Hero name seems fine enough at first glance, but digging deeper reveals he's more dangerous and violent than he seemed.

    Fridge Horror

For Their Sakes

  • Hawks does not remember his birth name. Not only did his neglectful parents sell him to the Commission, but the Commission stripped him of his personal identity.
  • At most, Hawks was a young teenager when he was put through "enhanced interrogation training". More likely (based on the descriptions given), he was a child aged thirteen or under. The Commission tortured a child to "train" him.
  • It's likely Hawks' body hasn't changed to adapt to having the Voices' Quirks (he's not fire-resistant as his encounter with Endeavor confirms). Orange's Quirk manifested in his wings. Feathers are extremely flammable. When Hawks tries to use White's Quirk, he may easily set himself on fire when he doesn't have a body that can handle it (like Dabi).
  • At Hosu, most Heroes don't know that Nomu are former humans and think they're mindless monsters. Hawks just revealed he knows they are human after being asked why he showed compassion to the Winged Nomu. Looks like the Voices' fear Hawks may be seen as a spy or Manchurian Agent might come true, because from the characters' POV, how else would he know that? Time travel?
  • The Voices have traumatic memories associated with All Might to the point where his heroic, heartening catchphrase is a trigger for them. Then Hawks gets a brief flash of a hulking Nomu with blue eyes...
  • The Hero Public Safety Commission is as corrupt or maybe worse than the Capitol Hero Committee. Since the Voices are in Hawks' head and are privy to his thoughts, it is only a matter of time before they realize the Hero Society they came back to save is held up by an organization no better than the villains. How will Deku react?
  • Endeavor did what the Commission did, just on a smaller scale: They both took a child from his family because of his Quirk, isolated him, and trained him to be the best Hero.
  • Hawks instinctively pulls out feathers when he becomes stressed, which causes him pain. He doesn't realize it's Self-Harm and fails to understand why the Voices become upset when he does it.
  • Endeavor's cold and aggressive attitude towards Hawks might be an indicator of a deeper resentment. The Voices note Endeavor's older children are around Hawks' age, yet none of them are Pro Heroes or "successes" in their father's eyes. Endeavor might very well be resentful towards Hawks since he sees what a successful Hero Touya could have been and hates that Hawks is there instead.
  • Hawks has Repressed Memories involving someone calling him "My Angel", who insists they own him and what happens is his fault. When Hawks almost remembers this due to a Trauma Button being pushed, the Voices become panicked and nauseous. They question Hawks about what that was, but he doesn't know what they're talking about. He's not lying or hiding anything from them. He genuinely doesn't remember the corrupted memory seconds later and the memories aren't explained further. Something traumatic happened to him that he's forgetting.
  • Green/Deku's change in character. On the surface, he seems as idealistic as his younger self but more signs are popping up that he's not as save-everyone heroic as he used to be. He was willing to send Hawks to die for information (not that he said it in those words) before ending up in his body. He also doesn't object to using Hawks' body without his consent and remains silent when Purple tries to brainwash their host. It seems Green isn't such an all-loving, idealistic Hero anymore. Making it worse, neither he nor his friends seem to realize it yet, suggesting this change was gradual.
  • Looking at Toshinori's reactions and dialogue in chapter eleven again, it's likely he thought Hawks was gang-raped before Hawks clarified someone was literally using his body while he was asleep.

Mockingjay: Origin

  • Finnick's father is mentioned a few times and then never mentioned again. Following that, Finnick tells Katniss about his forced prostitution and the threat hanging over her head. There's a large chance Finnick refused to become their Sex Slave at first so the Capitol killed his father and threatened to kill Katniss next.
  • Finnick was ripped apart by Muttations (just like in the canon book) as Mockingjay was forced to watch. In the book, his head was bitten off. No wonder Katniss is so traumatized.
  • Mockingjay wonders if Gale knew about the plan to kill Prim. It's never answered if he was or not. But if he was, he may have helped them to get back at Katniss for "betraying" him or was forced to help the Capitol when they threatened his loved ones. Or he could he be completely innocent and Katniss doesn't know, which means she refuses to see her old friend for no reason.
  • Eighteen year-old Hawks was harassed by a creepy handler. He claims nothing that bad happened, but part of his character is he tends to downplay things so he doesn't alarm others. That and his skewed definition of "bad" means he thinks horrific things that happen to him aren't a big deal, like Endeavor grabbing him with burning hands.
    • If Katniss wasn't there to watch over him, Hawks could have ended up like Finnick. Hawks has a pretty face, and Katniss sees people notice and lust over him even when he's barely eighteen.
  • Gale hates the corruption of Hero Society and wishes someone would punish "fake Heroes". He'd definitely be a supporter of Hero Killer Stain.
  • The Quirk Games happened for 25 years. Twenty-four kids were kidnapped yearly. That's 600 kidnappings and 574 deaths (subtracting the presumed 26 survivors; One per year except in Katniss and Finnick's year where those two survived.)
  • Snow claims the last child standing would get to go home, but it's more likely they were killed as well or remained his organization's captive. After all, the Quirk Games remained a secret organization until Katniss and Finnick's Game became known to the public.
  • It's implied most of the kidnapped kids are Heroes-in-training. They want to be Heroes, but (with the exception of Katniss, Finnick, and Rue) they all turn on and kill each other to try to survive. This is even though Finnick tries to convince them to work together to defeat their kidnappers.
  • Linked to the above, remember the Quirk Games were secretly funded by the Capitol Hero Committee. They have access to Hero students' files. It's likely they picked kids from Hero Courses with interesting Quirks in order to make the Games more entertaining.
