Fridge Brilliance

  • When one thinks about it, it's justified that Flint blindly repeated history by writing off Sam's judgement about Chester. Why would he trust Chester after what happened with Mayor Shelbourne? From where Flynn stands, he thinks Chester is different because he's a scientist. Last time he trusted someone other than Sam was a disaster because Shelbourne was a Corrupt Politician. Shelbourne didn't know anything about how to handle the technology responsibly. So Flint believed Chester would be different because (A) he's a fellow scientist and (B) his interest in the FLDSMDFR (seemingly) went in the polar opposite direction where he understood how dangerous it was.
  • How did the foodimals know Chester was evil? They were genetically engineered to protect the FLDSMDFR. It's the equivalent of the human fight/flight response.
  • Sam comforts Flint by telling him that everyone has been humiliated on national TV at least once. It's not just her trying to be nice; in the first film she was repeatedly embarrassed while reporting at Swallow Falls.
  • Earl not wanting to bring Cal along unless he's grown his first chest hair is actually pretty reasonable. Assuming that Cal inherits Earl's other physical traits, the chest hair gives him a spider-sense-este warning in the event of danger.
  • Watching the Foodimals vs Scientists battle, it seemed a little oddly coincidental at first that so many of the creatures left behind were the big and strong ones, the ones who would be most useful in a fight and therefore the most fun to watch in the following scene. But for one, letting smaller creatures through first means letting more of them escape at once—in the time it takes one shrimpanzee to maneuver through the portal opening, at least ten berries can just hurl themselves through, and it all goes a lot quicker. And two, if the creatures WERE expecting resistance from the scientists, it makes sense to leave the heavy-hitters to guard the portal at first and fight off enemies to give the others time to escape.
  • Flint being afraid to say nuts in response to all the food from their metaphors appearing in the ocean when they arrive makes sense considering Sam’s peanut allergy.
  • The Cheesespider's prominent role in this film makes sense when you remember that the very first food that Flint made with the FLDSMDFR was cheeseburgers.

Fridge Horror

  • Barb has a human brain sharing space with her ape brain inside her skull. Considering the frightening things that we learn about her boss, Chester V, one has to wonder if he murdered an actual human being for that brain.
  • Given the events of the movie as well as the appearance of what was likely Flint's freeze ray weaponized on the Sentinels of Safety, consider how many times Chester has probably stolen an inventor's idea and gotten rid of said inventor to that he himself can keep coming out with new Food Bars.
    • That's the only reason he recruits inventors for his company: to be able to take credit for their ideas. The food bar is probably the only thing he has really invented on his own in his whole career.
  • Are we sure all the Live Corp employees are in on Chester's schemes like the ones at the end? Some of the scientists killed in the Apocalyptic Log could have been just misguided, like Flint.
  • The FLDSMDFR may not have actually changed all that much from the first film, in which it created catastrophic weather patterns that at one point threatened the entire planet. In this film, it creates highly-invasive food animals and creates a heavily altered climate for them to live in, which is clearly radiating from the island (the first heavily mutated food-structures are found well-away from the shore). The ending depicts an "everything works out perfectly" scenario, but were Chester's predictions on the FLDSMDFR's activities really off?
  • So did Swallow Falls' big mayor drown offscreen while everyone met Chester, or what?
  • Considering that Chester wanted to drop Flint's friends into the shredder and he plans to use the shredder on the sentient and in some cases sapient foodimals to make Food Bars, who's to say Chester wouldn't use human remains as additional ingredients?
