  • In addition to its other significances, Mike's half-measures speech also encapsulates why Walt's relationship with Jesse is so troubled. Befitting the duality that Walt/Heisenberg presents throughout the show, Walt simultaneously wants Jesse to be his business partner/subordinate and his adopted son at the same time. Walt acts too harshly and Cannot Spit It Out that he loves Jesse to prevent him from getting into trouble, but worries too much about the main to let Gus's men kill him. Consequently Jesse refuses to listen to him obediently as a subordinate, or lovingly as a foster son.
