Wolf Warrior is a 2015 Chinese action movie directed by and starring Wu Jing. The movie stars Leng Feng, a sniper who disobeys orders and makes a risky, near-impossible shot to kill a drug lord and save a hostage. After deliberating whether or not to discharge him, his superiors assign him to the elite Wolf Warrior unit.

During a training exercise, the unit is attacked by mercenaries working for the brother of the drug lord that Leng Feng killed.

The movie was followed by Wolf Warrior 2 in 2017.

Wolf Warrior contains examples of:

  • And Mission Control Rejoiced: When Leng Feng manages to escape the land mine he steps on.
  • Avenging the Villain: Ming Deng is the brother of the druglord that Leng Feng kills before his induction into the Wolf Warriors.
  • Cavalry Betrayal: After Leng Feng defeats Tomcat, he's rescued by army medics who turn out to be Ming Deng and his men in disguise.
  • Fatal Family Photo: The first Wolf Warrior to die in the movie is Yu Fei, who mentions his two-year-old daughter. After he's killed, his comrades find her photo in his hat.
  • Friendly Sniper: Leng Feng is a sniper but is otherwise a friendly, fun-loving guy.
  • From Camouflage to Criminal: Tomcat is an ex-Navy SEAL. Now he's a mercenary working for a drug kingpin.
  • Heroic Sacrifice:
    • During the Sino-Vietnamese War, Leng Feng's father was on a mission to retrieve vital military intelligence. When his commander was wounded, he asked Leng Feng's father to kill him.
    • The company commander is wounded by a sniper and used as bait. Every soldier that tries to rescue him is killed until he orders his men to kill him. Subverted when his soldiers instead shoot down a tree to give Leng Feng enough cover to rescue him.
  • Meaningful Name:
  • Military Brat: Leng Feng's father was also a soldier who fought in the Sino-Vietnamese War.
  • Military Maverick: The plot is kicked off because Leng Feng disobeyed orders and saved the life of a hostage.
  • Never Gets Drunk: Leng Feng claims to be this since he'd been drinking since he was a child. Still, he gets drunk and passes out when Commander Long offers him too much to drink.
  • Private Military Contractors: Tomcat and the rest of Ming Deng's private army.
  • The Quiet One: After his first scene, Ming Deng barely speaks.
  • Rousing Speech: The commander gives one after mercenaries sneak into a country and kill a Chinese soldier.
  • Rule of Cool: Leng Feng runs through a gauntlet of grenade booby traps, setting them off. So many grenades going off at the same time so close to him should at least injure him. But at least it looks awesome.
  • Synthetic Plague: Ming Deng's ultimate plan is to steal a bioweapon that could be used to specifically target Chinese people.
