The Sacrifice Game is a 2023 horror movie released on Amazon. At an all-girls' boarding school in December 1971, Samantha (Madison Baines) and Clara (Georgia Acken) are staying over for Christmas vacation with their kind teacher Rose (Chloe Levine). On Christmas Eve, however, a murderous cult - led by Jude (Mena Massoud) and Maisie (Olivia Scott Welch) - breaks into the school.
Tropes
- Bound and Gagged: Everyone throughout the first stage of the home invasion.
- Convenient Photograph: Maisie manages to figure out that Clara is the demon by seeing that she's in every picture in the school.
- Foreshadowing: Maisie's remark that Clara looks familiar.
- Homage:
- The group kill the couple in the beginning in a recreation of the home invasion in A Clockwork Orange.
- Both of the "dinner parties" are filmed in homage to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- Horror Doesn't Settle for Simple Tuesday: The killings occur over the Christmas period.
- Long Hair Is Feminine: Clara/the demon orders Grant to cut off Maisie's hair, which is apparently an equal offering to the men losing their fingers and ear respectively.
- Noble Demon: Clara/the demon manages to save Samantha's life, though she does watch Rose die.
- Stupid Evil: Maisie - though the rest of group doesn't fare much better - did not consider that there was possibly more information in the book that she didn't get before being kicked out, but she still went ahead and killed multiple people.
- The Smurfette Principle: There is one female killer (Maisie) in the group.
- Traumatic Haircut: Grant cuts off Maisie's hair.
- Twisted Christmas: The first kill takes place over Christmas carols, while the home invasion itself occurs on Christmas Eve and takes place over Christmas Day.
- Within Arm's Reach: When Jude freaks out Maisie, she hits him with a book and manages to knock him out.
