Revenge for Jolly! contains examples of:

  • Big "NO!": Harry screams "NO! NOOOO! NOOOOOOOO!" when he finds Jolly hanging in his living room.
  • Disposable Sex Worker: Tina and Vicki, the two prostitutes Harry and Cecil meet to have sex with, end up getting gunned down unceremoniously when the discussion of payment goes south.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The first person Harry kills is Thomas the bartender (Elijah Wood) for saying, "It's just a dog."
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Harry and Cecil consume huge amounts of beer, prescription drugs, and weed throughout the movie.
  • Due to the Dead: Harry and Cecil bury Jolly in Harry's backyard and set off a firecracker in her memory.
  • Fingore: The prostitute Tina (Gillian Jacobs) shoots Cecil in the left hand, leaving it uselessly curled in on itself.
Cecil: That was my good hand. Now it's my bad hand.
  • In Medias Res: The movie opens with Harry arriving at the killer's house and saying, "Are you Everett Bachmeier?" The movie then jumps back 36 hours, to before Jolly's murder.
  • Karma Houdini: No consequences befall Harry for the many people he kills.
  • Sorrowful Stutter: At Jolly's funeral, Harry says, "She... was the only thing... that made me..." He can't finish teh sentence.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: Harry tells Cecil to wait in the car while he kills Bachmeier. Cecil feels betrayed, but doesn't follow him into the house.
  • Wedding Smashers: Harry and Cecil crash Bachmeier's sister's wedding and kill several bystanders while questioning the guests about the name of the killer.
