A 1976 American comedy film directed and cowritten by Peter Bogdanovich about a lawyer (Ryan O'Neal) who accidentally finds himself in the movie-making business in the 1910s.

The movie also stars Burt Reynolds, Tatum O'Neal, Jane Hitchcock, Brian Keith, Stella Stevens, John Ritter, Brion James, Sidney Amus, Lorenzo Music, Jeffrey Byron, and Priscilla Pointer.

It was released on December 21, 1976.

  • Balloonacy: A scene has a hot-air balloon being filmed, when Kathleen Cooke (who is nearsighted) bumps into a handler and gets her foot caught in a balloon tow rope. When the balloon rises, it takes Kathleen with it, dangling her upside down.
  • Groupie Brigade: The film has the silent movie stars being stripped naked by screaming fans ripping off their clothing for souvenirs.
  • Magic Skirt: Aversion. Some print ads for the film featured a picture of Jane Hitchcock's character dangling by one foot from a hot-air balloon's tow rope, with her skirt completely draped over her face and showing knee-length pantaloons over black stockings.
  • Period Piece: Takes place from 1914 to 1915 during the Silent Movie era.
