Josie is a 2018 film directed by Eric England, written by Anthony Ragnone II, and distributed by Screen Media Films.

Hank (Dylan McDermott) is a loner living in a sleepy Southern town who develops an odd relationship with Josie (Sophie Turner), a mysterious young woman who recently arrived.

Tropes that appear in this film:

  • Actor Allusion: Like Sansa Stark, Josie's father was wrongfully executed and she takes revenge on one of the men who stood by as it happened by slitting his throat. Unlike Sansa, Josie does the deed herself.
  • And the Adventure Continues: The film's last scene has Josie in a bar, wearing a different wig, eyeing up one of her targets.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Downplayed. "Josie" succeeds in her short-term goal of murdering Hank, but whether she'll finish her long-term goal of killing everyone involved in her father's death is up in the air.
  • Big Bad: Josie herself is a Serial Killer intent on murdering everyone she feels was involved in her father's wrongful execution.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Josie suggests that Hank buy a boat named "Tortuga". Tortuga is Spanish for tortoise and Hank owns two tortoises which Josie takes with her when she leaves town after killing Hank.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: A mysterious long-haired man shows up time-to-time in Hank's field of view. It's revealed that he's Josie's deceased father.
  • Deep South: The film takes place in a town near the border called Baymont.
  • The Drifter: Josie. Unlike most examples, she has her own reasons for showing up in this particular town.
  • Femme Fatale: Josie turns both Hank and Marcus on, and sets them both up.
  • Frame-Up: Josie frames Marcus for Hank's death, putting the knife she used in his hands.
  • Karma Houdini: Josie murders Hank and skips town to continue her killing spree.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Josie plays everyone like a fiddle.
  • Moral Myopia: Even though Josie's father was executed because he was framed, she has no problem subjecting Marcus to the same fate.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Hank feels some amount of remorse for executing Josie's father. Because of this, Josie elects to give him a quick, clean death, unlike what she has planned for the rest.
  • Posthumous Narration: Hank narrates the scenes directly following his death before the film cuts back to Josie.
  • The Reveal: Josie's father was a convict on death row who was executed (he turned out to be innocent), an execution that Hank helped set up.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Josie seeks to murder the men who executed her father.
  • Serial Killer: Josie. In her case there are specific targets involved: every man who was involved in her father's death.
  • Slashed Throat: Hank's fate, courtesy of Josie.
  • Tattooed Crook: Josie is a Femme Fatale and Serial Killer with a number of tattoos.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: The Long-haired man is nothing special, but his daughter Josie is very attractive.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Josie's accent can change from mid-Atlantic to a vague Southern one over a single sentence.
  • Wig, Dress, Accent: At the end of the film, Josie changes her appearance with a wig (a jet-black bob) and different set of clothes when she eyes up her next victim.
  • You Killed My Father: Hank helped execute Josie's father, so she's gunning for his head along with anyone else involved.
