Elena Undone is a woman-loving-woman romantic film about Elena Winters (
Necar Zadegan), the wife of an anti-gay preacher, falling in love with Peyton Lombard (
Traci Dinwiddie), an out lesbian. Complications ensue.
This film provides examples of:
- Babies Ever After: At the end, Peyton and Elena are shown with Elena's baby together in the park, raising it as a couple after the struggle they went through.
- Bisexual Love Triangle: Elena is torn between her homophobic husband and Peyton, the woman she's fallen in love with. She eventually chooses Peyton, divorcing him.
- Closet Key: Elena at first denies any attraction to women, but then realizes she's fallen in love with Peyton, having an affair with her.
- Forced Out of the Closet: Millie spots Peyton and Elena kissing while in the park, telling Elena's husband.
- Heteronormative Crusader: Elena's husband Barry is an anti-LGBT+ preacher, which makes things worse when she secretly has an affair with a woman.
- Law of Inverse Fertility: Elena and Berry try unsuccessfully to have another child. At the end she's managed to via IVF with another man's sperm after they divorced.
- Lipstick Lesbian: Elena is a very elegant woman with long hair, who wears makeup and generally feminine clothing (she's probably bisexual, given Peyton is the first women she ever was attracted to). Peyton is less so, certainly far from butch either, with more in-between looks.
- The Oner: An almost four-minute scene in which Elena and Peyton kiss for the first time.
- Queer Romance: The whole film is about Elena, a woman who's married to a man, steadily falling in love with Peyton, who starts out as her female friend and them getting into an affair.
- Sexless Marriage: Elena tells Peyton she and her husband no longer have sex, after they failed to conceive another child.
- Sympathetic Adulterer: Elena is treated sympathetically for her cheating with Peyton, as her husband Barry's a homophobe and not very understanding of Elena's needs. They get divorced after he finds out.
