Cain Hill is a British Horror Movie by Gene Fallaize.
In late 2012, a group of documentary filmmakers decided to make a TV documentary about the infamous Cain Hill Mental Institute, which was shut down over a decade prior following a mysterious fire that killed many patients and orderlies. The guys of the group, Richard (Edward Elgood), Marcus (Jason York), Leonard (Tony Cook), Steve (Ben Mansbridge), and Michael (David Whitney) all meet up in a hotel room before picking up a local who knows the stories of the place, Mary (Hannah Jacobs), and of one of its most infamous inmates, Chester Lockhart. Their plan is to spend the weekend in the asylum, gathering footage that they can use.
So they set up and prepare for the long haul. However, what none of them were expecting was that someone else would be in the building with them. And that person has murderous intent in mind for them.
The film was released on April 21st, 2017.
Cain Hill contains examples of:
- Abandoned Hospital: Cain Hill, of course. It's been shut down for over a decade by the time the events of the movie take place.
- Almost Kiss: Richard and Mary have one in the pub before heading off to Cain Hill.
- Bait-and-Switch: The first shot of the film is of a woman trying to hide from a killer, only to be found and chopped... then we see it's a bunch of filmmakers shooting a scene for a movie.
- Beard of Evil: Chester has a massive beard.
- Creepy Doll: While Marcus is walking around the upper floors collecting footage, he walks into a room, and the camera (not the one Marcus is holding) zooms in on one of these sitting in a chair. It's later seen at the end of the film as a part of a crime scene.
- Destroy the Security Camera: As he moves about the building, Chester destroys all the security cameras the team set up.
- Downer Ending: Chester kills everyone but Mary, and no trace of him is ever found, meaning he's still out there.
- Evil Is Bigger: Chester stands a foot or two taller than everyone else.
- Facial Horror: While looking through the building, one of the crew finds a corpse with a lot of lacerations on its face.
- Fatal Family Photo: Richard shows off a photo of his daughter on his phone to Mary at the pub. He's last seen getting a beatdown from Chester.
- Kill It with Fire: Chester kills Michael by chaining him to a wall, pouring lighter fluid all over him, and setting him on fire.
- The Place: The film is named after the Abandoned Hospital that it's set in.
- Savage Spiked Weapons: Chester uses a spiked bat for his kills.
- Shout-Out: When the crew meets Elizabeth, they start making jokes about her going by other names, like Zuul.
- Slashed Throat: One of the cast gets their throat opened.
- Sole Survivor: Mary.
- Tattooed Crook: While he's a killer rather than a crook, Chester has a scorpion tattoo on his right arm.
