Right to left: Mia and Gianna
Blue My Mind is a movie made in 2018, starring Luna Wedler and Zoe Pastelle Holthulzen.A 15-year-old girl named Mia (Wedler) recently moved to a new town in Switzerland, and is struggling to make new friends. To fit in with resident Alpha Bitch Gianna (Holthulzen), she joins her Girl Posse starts engaging in smoking, drinking, recreational shoplifting, and promiscuous sex. However, she is also beginning to undergo slow changes into something not quite human, which really isn't pleasant at all.
This film contains examples of the following:
- Adoption Angst: A minor subplot is that Mia suspects she was adopted, and she and Gianna confront her mother about it.
- Alpha Bitch: Mia's best friend Gianna is this, and part of Mia's motives in the film is to join her Girl Posse.
- Bathtub Mermaid: Mia at the end of the movie.
- Bittersweet Ending: Mia has become friends with Gianna, and left her (assumedly adoptive) parents, but has turned into a mermaid, her life on land is ruined, and Gianna somberly releases her into the sea.
- Body Horror: Mia develops cravings for water and fish, her legs become scaly, her navel disappears, she grows gills on the side of her torso, and then her legs fuse into a long piscine tail.
- Driven to Suicide: Attempted but subverted. Mia slashes her forearm with a kitchen knife after overdosing on meds, then falls unconscious... only to wake up the next morning with an open wound on her forearm and a piscine tail having replaced her legs overnight.
- Erotic Asphyxiation: Gianna and Mia try choking each other until they faint, because it turns Gianna on.
- Girl Posse: Gianna has one, and Mia later joins it.
- Horror Hunger: Mia has one as part of her Slow Transformation, devouring all the fish in her mother's fish tank several times.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Gianna. Despite starting out as an Alpha Bitch, she shows genuine concern for Mia going through Body Horror, and is genuinely grateful when Mia saves her from drowning.
- Man-Made House Flood: Played for Drama, after Mia's transformation into a mermaid is complete, she leaves all the faucets at full blast, flooding her apartment. She uses it to get to her phone and call Gianna.
- Mermanity Ensues: Mia starts to undergo a transformation into a mermaid right after she hits 15. How and why she experiences this is never explained, but unlike most examples of this trope, it's anything but pretty.
- Oh, Crap!:
- Mia has this reaction several times involving her Slow Transformation.
- Gianna also gets one when she notices Mia turned into a Mermaid and her apartment is flooded.
- Our Mermaids Are Different: When she's 15, Mia undergoes a Slow Transformation into a Mermaid with gills on her torso and a caudal fin that's cleft to resemble a Pinniped's feet.
- Puberty Superpower: Mia starts her Slow Transformation at 15 right after getting her first period, gradually turning into a mermaid.
- Punk in the Trunk: Downplayed example, with a pickup truck. Mia, as a full Mermaid, rides in the bed of Gianna's pickup truck on her way to the sea at the end of the film.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Mia's reaction to various events involving her Slow Transformation, most notably her reaction after realizing she could breathe water after rescuing Gianna.
- Shower of Angst: Mia has one after completing her transformation into a Mermaid. She leaves it running and covers the plug, resulting in a Man-Made House Flood.
- Slow Transformation: Mia's turning into a Mermaid takes up the majority of the film.
- Spoiler Cover: One poster and many descriptions along with DVD covers spoil that Mia is turning into a mermaid.
- Threeway Sex: At least four men at a club get Mia to give them fellatio as she's clearly intoxicates. She fellates two before Gianna comes into the room and gets her away.
- Totally 18: Mia passes herself off as 16 (Switzerland's age of consent) to have sex with adults so as to fit in with the local clique. She's really 15-while Switzerland has a close in age exception, this only extends up to 18 year old partners for them.
- Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Mia has one while at an amusement park.
- Wall Bang Her: The second time she's having sex, Mia does it up against a wall with a guy.
