General Fics

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance. Romantic relationships can appear and should be noted accordingly, but they shouldn't be the focus of the story.

In Living Memory by Ziracona

• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: The Wraith had always thought that he was doing the right thing serving as Reaper for the Spirit who'd found him, but when his prey begins acting in ways which make him question that, things in The Entity's realm start to go in directions it won't allow. Any time those barely surviving choose to take a stand, there is always a price to pay, and in a cyclical living nightmare like this, how much can the survivors really afford to believe in? Is it truly possible for there to be any good end when you're already in hell?

• Comments: Don't let the summary fool you - this fic focuses on the whole cast of the game cutting off after the Ghost Face's introduction and has a little of everything I know I tend to go into DBD fic hoping for, between some really good horror/suspense and action moments and great and consistent, believable characterization for each of the characters, including the licensed ones. You get a lot of focus on the Survivors increasingly coming together as a team/family during their time in the Entity's realm as all any of them's got while also holding out hope that they can find a way out, and you've got some really nice moments and particular friendships within that ensemble, but a highlight for me is in their interactions with the Killers, sometimes seeing the old humanity in them and sometimes... well, continuing to see the lack thereof, in the case of such Killers as the Nightmare and the Clown. A long read, but an easy one to get hooked into with a style like a digestible adventure/thriller book, and a rewarding one with plenty to offer. I'd personally call this one a fandom must-read. Just be aware it's a Doorstopper.

ODDFELLOWS by Dr Tanner

• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: The Nightmare is a flawed, imprecise place. Sometimes, mistakes are made.

Sometimes, if one wanders far enough and makes just the right - or rather, wrong - missteps, he might just see some things that he was never meant to see.

• Pairing(s): Evan/Phillip (Trapper/Wraith)
• Comments: Undoubtedly one of, if not the best fic in the entire tag. Written in a much simpler time, where killers such as The Nurse and Myers were considered new and exciting killers, the authors writing style is a delight to read and I've easily reread it all in one sitting over a couple of hours. It explores the potential of a survivor finding themselves on 'the wrong side of the fence' so to speak, and all the delightful, terrifying, heartwarming and gut-wrenching interactions spiraling from it. Featuring fantastic characterization for a fic started in 2017, it does feature the author's own lore as what was available at the time was sparse and shoddy. I like to believe that this was the fic that properly kickstarted the tag, and (spoilers) ripped the fandom's collective heart out. A fandom must read. I've also heard that the author is working on a sequel/epilogue type fic, but it's likely in the far future.

Claudette's Campfire For Forlorn Killers by Wolfs Howl 5678

• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: Claudette doesn't want anything to do with the killers outside of trials. Not one bit.

That doesn't stop one of them from stumbling into her clearing, bleeding and asking to be healed. It also doesn't stop her from helping him out.

• Comments: A fic I really enjoyed reading and rereading. Featuring more survivor/killer interactions, though in a more era-3 DBD setting (Clown and Co.), this fic ranges from comedy to angst, and all the moments inbetween. If you're looking for a Claudette standing up for herself, non-standard interpretations of the lore, and blight content, this is the fic for you. Originally intended to be crack treated seriously, but quickly spirals from there.

We are Two of a Kind by fragile

• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: After they bury their rotting secret in the snow, the Legion decide to keep a low profile for a few months. That meant none of their usual mischief. Frank has never felt more bored and restless in his life, until he gets a call from someone claiming to know what happened that night.
• Pairing(s): Ghostface/Frank Morrison
• Comments: A genuine horror masterpiece and hands down one of the best fanfics I've read, especially for such an obscure ship. The chemistry between Ghostface and Frank Morrison is deliciously dark, and sometimes you find yourself rooting for them while other times wanting Frank to run. It doesn't just focus on the two of them either, with every single character getting a chance to shine. The fic is in third person omniscient and the author takes advantage of that with multiple pov changes that are always done naturally. Besides the wonderful characterization, the way the author writes literally leaves you hooked. Once you start it, you can't put it down. There are so many details sprinkled in each chapter that always come back in ways you don't expect, so expect a few rereads to catch everything. I definitely consider it a must-read, even if you're not sure about the ship.

• Synopsis: When the Entity finally "dies", the Trapper finds himself in a new place, with new people. Or... What happens when an emotionally and physically tormented man finds himself in a hotel run by a charming demon belle who wants to redeem him?

The Horrors in Hawkins by I_dunno

• Synopsis: El creates a portal to rescue Steve and Nancy from the realm of the Entity. But survivors aren't the only ones who can use that portal.

• Synopsis: Abandoned by her friends during the events of Anon-A-Miss, and facing a harsh, unforgiving winter homeless and without support, Sunset makes a choice. Leaving the world behind, she finds herself in the impossible and horrifying realm of the Trials. With the Entity sending its killers after her, Sunset will have to work together with the other jaded and half-crazy survivors to keep the darkness at bay. But will it matter? Is a way out of the Trials even possible?
• Comments: First part of the series. Extremely dark.

Dead by Midnight by I-A-M

• Synopsis: Two years after they were taken, two years after they escaped, the Fog has returned to Canterlot and with it, murders and a brand new threat. Sunset found her way back a year after saving her friends, and enemies, from the clutches of the Entity, and sacrificing herself. In the process of escaping, she discovered that someone had attacked the Entity and stolen its dark magic. Now, a year later, the city of Canterlot is beset by a rash of murders that have no motive and leave no evidence. With her old crew on her side along with a few new friends, Sunset is determined to carve the Fog out of the streets of Canterlot and make herself the thief's worst Nightmare. And if she's lucky she'll do it without losing anyone.
