In general:

    In General
  • The original sources really seem to hide and/or exorcise a character's detailed background, and what really occurred before the Killing Games happen, like Hope's Peak Academy's attendance and everyone's relationship with each other. As a result, the most scared, shameless followers of the franchise are given their widest opportunities to extend the timeline they already know of to what they believe a character or story outside of what they've already observed would be like. The manga entries seem to answer quite a lot in relation to what players of the games don't see themselves.

Main installments:

    Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
  • Everyone's lives before the Killing Game are just begging for fan works to be made of them.
  • The series never explains what happened between the this game's survivors escaping and them being picked up by the Future Foundation. This, coupled with the survivors' appealing Found Family dynamic, is ripe with fanfiction potential.

    Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
  • Tons, both in regards to the students' past as Ultimate Despair as well as the implication that the comatose students will eventually wake up. Both of these were eventually explored in canon in Danganronpa 3.

    Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
  • The auditions revealing that the personalities seen in the game's prologue may be completely different from the characters we know throughout the game and that they all in fact wanted to play this game for their own personal reasons. There are so many possibilities to be explored there for everyone in the cast it's hard not to think of a fanfic to write about them.
  • Lore about Professor Iidabashi, his possible association with Team Danganronpa, and his relationship to Keebo.
  • Love Suite scenarios, but starring Kaede instead of Shuichi.
  • The existence of 49 unexplored killing games, especially in regards to Rantaro's first game.
  • What if Kaede hadn't been framed for killing Rantaro? This one's gone full-on Fandom-Specific Plot, with several well-regarded fanfics having different turns on the formula.
