When Mirabel's gift ceremony ends with her not getting her gift and her door disappearing, Alma asks her son Bruno to see the future to learn what this means. He forsees Mirabel in relation to the Casita collapsing, but he is uncertain as to what it means. While in canon he left without warning, here he reviews his vision with Julieta and they come to a conclusion: he will leave and take Mirabel with him.

This fanfic provides examples of:
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Having been separated from their youngest daughter with no idea where she went, Julieta and Agustín are much more dower in this version. It's especially worse for Agustín because he has no idea what's going on (Julieta having talked it over with Bruno before he left), nearly having a meltdown when Mirabel refers to Bruno as her "papa".
- Ear Ache: In the party after Antonio's gift ceremony, Dolores suffers a form of Power Incontinence where her Super-Hearing is turned up to eleven, a high-pitched whining causing her to bleed from her ears.
- For Want Of A Nail: While Bruno left on his own without warning in canon, here he discusses it with Julieta and takes Mirabel with him.
- Generation Xerox: Downplayed. Mirabel ends up picking most of Bruno's awkwardness and No Social Skills, to the point that pretty much everyone privately notes that they see a lot of Bruno in her.
- Involuntary Shapeshifting: While helping a family build their home, Camilo starts suffering from Power Incontinence and shapeshifts uncontrollably, Mirabel comparing it to a panic attack.
- History Repeats: Like his mother, Bruno is forced to leave his house with a small child to take care of. He ends up settling down the other side of a river and granted his own magical sentient house. He even wonders if miracles have a preference for Madrigal single parents.
- Ironic Name: Mirabel finds it hilarious that the Madrigal's mansion-sized family home is called "Casita" (little house) while her and Bruno's smaller four room home is called "Casa" (house).
- Nephewism: This version of Mirabel was raised by Bruno after she failed to get her gift. She eventually forgets who her birth-parents are and takes to calling him "Papa", much to his chagrin (he felt and continues to feel somewhat guilty about the development) and the rest of the family's horror (they assume he purposefully made it happen).
- No Social Skills: Having spent ten years with no one but her uncle, a small colony of rats and a living house, Mirabel is painfully blunt when speaking to others and fails to pick up on certain social cues.
- Parental Substitute: Bruno to Mirabel. To the Madrigal's collective surprise, the magic itself recognizes Bruno as Mirabel's father when she reunites with the rest of the family, to the point of moving her portrait on the family tree from Julieta's side to be straight down Bruno's portrait.
- Sapient House: When Bruno builds him and Mirabel a little shack, it ends up becoming a magical house similar to Casita. They dub it "Casa" and it provides for most of their needs while in exile, with it being heavily implied later on that at least some of the things it gives them is taken from Casita.
- Secret-Keeper: Instead of kidnapping his niece, Bruno goes to Julieta and explains that Mirabel will be in danger if she stays in Casita, and with her blessing and help he takes Mirabel away. Julieta then plays along when Alma informs her that her daughter and brother are missing, only telling Agustín the truth of the situation when Mirabel returns ten years later.
