The Vaults Weren't Meant To Save Anyone, So I'll SAVE Them Myself is a Fallout and Undertale crossover with some Deltarune elements.

Bellome is an okay place to live. Sure, anyone who climbs Mt. Ebott is never seen again, but that doesn't stop Frisk Friedmont and their family from going hiking. Little do they know that on October 23rd, 2077, their whole world will come crashing down. Believe it or not, the end of the world is only the beginning of Frisk's adventure.

Can be found here on Archive of Our Own.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Expansion: In canon it was never really made clear why Frisk climbed the mountain, save for perhaps a few hints at suicidal tendencies. Here, it's because they're looking for the entrance to the unfinished Vault at their father's behest.
  • Ambiguous Gender Identity:
    • Frisk is apparently biologically male, but their thoughts only use they/them pronouns, implying that they're non-binary, though they never actually refer to themselves as such.
    • Later chapters from the perspective of their sibling Kris have them always referred to with they/them pronouns as well.
  • Briar Patching: In this AU, the Barrier was a case of this, with some human allies of the monsters tricking the ones that wanted to wipe them out into sealing them away instead of exterminating them, just keeping the remaining monsters safe and giving them a chance to recover.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Played for Drama, as Frisk got cataracts from looking at a nuclear blast.
  • Fusion Fic: Combines the worlds of Fallout and Undertale, with some Deltarune elements showing up later.
  • Haunted Technology: When Frisk fell into the Underground, it's implied Chara latched onto their Pip-Boy.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Chuck Friedmont gave Frisk his Pip-Boy and sealed the latter inside before the bombs dropped.
  • Just Before the End: The story literally starts on the morning of the day the nukes land.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Shortly after Chuck turns off the radio when news of the attack broke out, Frisk notices everyone acting nervous.
  • Properly Paranoid: It's implied that Frisk's father realized what was coming, and his plan to hike the mountain is thus an attempt to hide out in the Vault. Unfortunately, things don't turn out as planned.
  • Sudden Game Interface: Frisk's Pip-Boy comes with the standard Fallout stats, to their confusion.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: When Asgore mistakes the bombs for earthquakes, Alphys doesn't bother correcting him, out of fear of monsterkind crossing the Despair Event Horizon.
