Fanfic / The New Dawn

The Leaf has a long and sordid history of producing some of the most powerful and deadliest rogue ninja to ever terrorize the ninja world; Madara Uchiha, Orochimaru, Kabuto Yakushi, Itachi Uchiha, Sasuke Uchiha. That it would produce another was perhaps inevitable, but no one expected it to be the son of the Seventh Hokage. Bolt Uzumaki runs away from the Leaf in shame and humiliation when he is caught cheating in the Chunin Exams and what he encounters outside the safety of his home forces him to reevaluate his goals, his allegiances, and his place in the ninja world.

The New Dawn by Code Musica is an Alternate Universe fic where the Otsutsuki don't attack like they do in canon and Boruto runs away from the Leaf after having been caught cheating. He finds himself diving headfirst in the chaos and violence of the ninja world and what comes out will change the game forever.

Tropes present in The New Dawn:

• The Ace: Bolt easily. His prodigious talent has become legendary in the ninja world. He has become arguably the greatest user of Lightning Release to ever live and one the foremost Seal Masters in the ninja world rapidly overtaking his mentors in both areas. He has also shown tremendous skill in politics and battle strategy as well being a highly charismatic public speaker and commander.
• Deconstruction:
  • Naruto's character gets hit with this hard.
    • His unwillingness to harshly punish anyone has allowed Orochimaru to continue with his inhumane experiments.
    • His ability to immediately build a rapport of allies and friends is useless against his son who not only displays an equal willpower but equal charisma as well genuine convincing arguments and a plan of action; something Naruto lacks.
    • He has never experienced a true human vs human war and the first time he is on the frontlines and sees people getting their limbs blown off he throws up.
    • Everyone in canon has treated Naruto as if he were the second coming able to easily convince even his greatest enemies to ascribed to his ideology. Bolt however, points out how in reality all of Naruto's enemies have been weak at heart and all Naruto did was essentially out-stubborn them. Bolt however due to having genuinely convincing arguments and willpower that rival his father's is naturally unaffected by Naruto's words.
    • Naruto as an absenteeism from his family is treated as just something they have to put up with in canon, here however the distance Naruto puts between his father is treated far more seriously as even Himawari begins to lose trust in her father and while she still loves him, notably doesn't include him in her thoughts when she thinks about her family or simply adds him as afterthought.
  • The entire ending of the manga is deconstructed here. It turns out the the "peace" achieved a the end of the series was only between the Five Great Villages and the rest of Ninja World still faces social and economic conflict.
• Protagonist Journey to Villain: Bolt starts off as a well-intentioned if not naive boy and the fic follows him as he slowly grows in notoriety as a rogue ninja, reforms the Akatsuki, and starts the Fifth Great Ninja War.
