Fanfic / The Misadventures Of Cosplay Man

Go To

In The Misadventures of Cosplay Man, by Shynnohwen. They have also written Alfred And The Tiny Attic Squatters, Family Bonding And Other Perilous Pursuits, and Visitant Lights.

Danny Fenton ends up in The DCU, treating it like a vacation while he waits for his family to find him and get him home. While watching Superman at the mercy of Lex Luthor, wanting to help but not wanting to expose the presence of Phantom or Fenton, he decides to dress up in cosplay of the hero instead. Hilarity Ensues.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Danny knocks one of the Joker's bombs back at him when the clown throws it at him, and while the Joker survives, his limbs are all blown off and reattaching them is made impossible.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Despite his obvious Cheap Costume getups and outrageous behavior, Danny still has all of his powers as "Cosplay Man", being able to defeat the likes of Lex Luthor and Merlyn while only using what he can get away with without "breaking character", while Sinsestro just nopes out when he realizes that Danny is from the Infinite Realms.
    • When impersonating the Bat-Family, he is absolutely brutal in his takedowns of Joker, Harley, Riddler, Bane, Poison Ivy, and Scarecrow. Ivy is the lucky one, just getting stuck to a wall and knocked around a bit, the Joker gets one of his own bombs knocked back at him (blowing off all of his limbs in the process), Bane gets punched in the crotch so hard his pelvis apparently got fractured, and Harley, Riddler, and Scarecrow got beaten up pretty hard. The Penguin, after seeing all this, wisely decides to surrender to the real Bats.
    • Right before Clockwork sends him back home, Danny uses his Self-Duplication powers to become a wide array of heroes at once, and defeats Darkseid.
  • Cheap Costume: Invoked, as Danny's "Cosplay Man" guise has him appear as a deliberately crappy-looking version of the hero he's rescuing. Hal is a little annoyed when he realizes that Danny is supposed to be him, while Clark starts to reconsider his own costume choices.
  • Crossover Power Acquisition: Danny makes a deal with the Speed Force to allow him to use it in order to properly cosplay the Flashes, though he won't keep it upon going home.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Danny's last fight before returning home is to use duplication to fight Darkseid as a wide array of heroes at once and win.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: On multiple occasions, the Justice League members that encounter Danny as "Cosplay Man" come to logical but inaccurate conclusions about him and his circumstances because of what he says or does before vanishing on them.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Sinestro realizes that Danny is from the Infinite Realms after he eats a blast from his ring, he promptly runs for the hills.
  • Trapped in Another World: The idea of the story is that Danny got stranded in the dimension of the Justice League somehow, and is basically treating it like a vacation while he waits for his loved ones to track him down.
  • Underestimating Badassery: More than once a villain underestimates "Cosplay Man" due to his silly outfits and demeanor, only to regret it later.
  • Worthy Opponent: After learning that Danny defeated him using just what he'd managed to pick up from two weeks of following Green Arrow around (and some subtle uses of his powers), Merlyn is hinted to be seeing Danny as this.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: Clockwork messed with time so that Danny was gone for much less time in his own world than the time he spend in the DC Universe.
