Post-Captain America: Civil War, Nick Fury is worried about Tony Stark's safety, especially in light of resurgence by HYDRA. So he provides Tony with a file on a man he believes would be an excellent bodyguard for Iron Man, and for sniffing out HYDRA agents. Why should Tony trust this guy, especially when he does not trust Fury in the first place? Well because he is an ex-SHIELD agent who quit after cursing in Fury's face when nobody would believe his warnings that HYDRA had infiltrated SHIELD . . .
Who is it?
One Percy Jackson.
As time passes though, with Percy joining up with Tony, it becomes increasingly clear this new guy is hiding many dark secrets. Even more importantly though, he has found a great new friend, who helps drastically change the face of the Avengers.
This fanfic provides examples of:
- Boxing Lessons for Superman: Percy's spy skills and mundane fighting techniques are so advanced, that he was able to complete lots of dangerous missions without SHIELD ever realizing he was actually super-powered. Clint outright said there was no way he could have hidden any from Fury.
- Cassandra Truth: Percy tried to make people believe him that HYDRA had infiltrated SHIELD, only everyone thought he was being overly paranoid. With the reveal he was right, he has gained a lot of credibility with everyone else.
- Combat Pragmatist: Percy fights to win, and has enough weapons for a small army on his person, to say nothing of his hidden powers, and fights brutally and without mercy.
- The Dreaded: Percy for sure, especially as Deathstroke.
- Fluffy the Terrible: Mrs. O'Leary is a Hellhound, and a very, very dangerous one. Really the size of a tank, with the strength and fangs to tear one apart, and has killed a LOT of people. However everyone who meets Percy while acting as a civilian, just falls in love with the most adorable dog ever. Percy likes to give her pigtails, or even dress her up in shark pajamas and then dance with her to music. All of which helps people forget the aforementioned danger...
- Guns vs. Swords: Percy regularly uses a sword against groups of mooks heavily armed with guns, and is the only one to walk away from it all in the end... He and Clint actually bond over how they use such archaic weapons.
- It Makes Sense in Context: Percy delights in telling people details about his childhood without the proper context.Text: [Grover's] been my best friend since the 6th grade where he broke into my cabin with no pants on, passed out, and then i dragged him to safety after i fought a bull
- I Owe You My Life: Or more specifically, Percy feels he owes the man for directly saving the lives of his mom, sister, and stepfather during the Chitauri Invasion.
- Killed Off for Real:
- Annabeth. Due to her and Percy's deep connection though, possibly from his time in the River Styx, he can visit her in his dreams, and they share together. She is quite content in Elysium as well.
- Rumlow is dead for good this time.
- Knight Templar Big Brother: Percy has become a sort of older brother figure to Peter, and does NOT react well to Flash's bullying of him.
- Price on Their Head: There is a rather substantial bounty on Percy's head. In reality, though, it was Nico and Hazel who did it. Partially in retaliation for getting them vaccinated (since they came from before those), but also because it lets Percy know who is after him so he can get them first, and finally if someone does kill him, his cousins will know in short order who did it.
- Properly Paranoid: Percy had a reputation of being paranoid at SHIELD, but he was after all a spy who had risen pretty high. Plus people failed to recognize that a lot of his 'paranoid' quirks are related to his demigod life. This became an issue though when people thought his warnings of a HYDRA infiltration were just his issues getting the better of him at last.
- Red Baron: Percy has accumulated several titles on both sides of his life, all of which are reasons to fear him.
- With the Olympians, he is known as the Twice Hero of Olympus, Demigod of Prophecy, Son of Poseidon, Titankiller and Godslayer.
- As mercenary however, he is known a little bit as Riptide, but mainly as Deathstroke , and other fun names like that.
Ned glanced at Peter again. "That's not even all of it. Apparently it's a sort of reference to these really old comics. But the character where the name is from—-he's like, impossible to kill. He has a few others, too. The Grim —-like Harry Potter? Wherever he goes, this giant black dog follows. And the whole, 'omen of death', thing too. Then there's... The Ghost King. Apparently the guy is like a freaking ghost, too. He just shows up and disappears after, and nobody can find him. He's never been caught, either." - Super-Soldier: Percy's fight with Rumlow highlights just how much his strength, speed, and reflexes are above human norm, without even delving into his water powers and enhanced senses.
- Support Party Member: What role Percy envisions the group to replace SHIELD will fulfill for the Avengers. Instead of spying, or carrying out assassinations in other countries, they are to handle clean-up- evacuation, investigating things enemies like the Chitauri leave behind, and armed support for the Avengers, who are the heavy combatants. Will be made up of ex-SHIELD agents vetted by him, many of him who were brought into Stark Industries by Tony after the data dump.
- Sword and Gun: While Percy prefers to use a sword, while he is a bad shot with a bow and arrow still, it turns out he is a good hand with a gun. So he carries around an arsenal of both and more with him.
- Taking the Bullet: As a bodyguard of Tony, Percy takes a three bullets for him in the Museum while the billionaire, ex-playboy, philanthropist, and u-armoured hero is giving a speech at the podium.
- Trans Nature: Revealed that Peter is actually transgendered.
- True Companions: Mrs. O'Leary is the best dog.
- Undying Loyalty: It defines Percy still, and why he takes the Rogue Avenger's betrayal of Tony so personally.
- What the Hell, Hero?:
- Steve Rogers is getting a lot of this.
- A lot of people are not impressed by Steve Roger, including a growing number of his own Rogues for his actions during their Civil War. No one has said it to his face yet, but the concerns are definitely there.
Bucky: I shouldn't hav'ta tell him that leaving a man to die in Siberia is a bad thing t'do. It comes from a good place, but he jus' acts like he's all superior 'n shit. Especially... especially 'bout Stark. He just... he wants t'help. He always has, but he's blinded by achieving results, and not takin' a minute to look at the consequences his actions bring.- Also made clear that by doing his data dump of the SHIELD archives to expose everything of HYDRA, he left a LOT of good people vulnerable… and then went off Bucky hunting.
- Steve Rogers is getting a lot of this.
