The Fairy and the Angel (will kick your ass if you call them that)
is a Fusion Fic Crossover between Yuri!!! on Ice and the Riordanverse, centered around the premise that Yuri Pilsetsky and Nico Di Angelo met and became friends prior to the events of ‘’Battle of The Labyrinth’’ and the beginning of Yuri!!! On Ice.
The series initially starts out as an Elsewhere Fic of The Camp Half-Blood Series, with Yuri knowing that Nico isn't a normal human but not privy to the true details behind The Masquerade. Over time, Yuri becomes more aware of the mythological world and begins to take more of an active role in the events that affect his friend.
This fic contains examples of:
- Adaptation Expansion: The Noodle Incident involving Coach Hedge and a Giant Badger mentioned in The Last Olympian is expanded on during the first half of the fic.
- All for Nothing: Nico, Yuri, and their friends spent the second half of the fic trying to thwart Melinoe’s attempt to convince the other pantheons to sponsor a Regime Change that removes Zeus from power and installs Hades as the king of Olympus, only for Apollo’s banishment to prompt the Olympian council to launch a coup against Zeus anyway.
- Asshole Victim: Bryce Lawrence is killed in Chapter 40, and the only person who's remotely fazed by his death is Ethan, who's more freaked out because it's his first time directly killing another human being.
- Cannot Keep a Secret: This is the reason that Yakov is kept in the dark about the fact that one of his students is a Slavic demigod and his ex-wife is a Roman Legacy.
- Cerebus Syndrome: The series starts out with the light-hearted concept of Yuri and Nico being Pen Pals. The finale revolves around an alliance of demigods across multiple pantheons team racing to stop a bunch of brainwashed Tyke Bombs from killing a god and destroying a city as collateral damage.
- Chekhov's Gun: Felix mentions in chapter 26 that Victor has imperial gold skates. Nearly 20 chapters later, they become a crucial component of the fic's climax.
- Conditioned to Accept Horror:
- Lampshaded in Chapter 36 when realizing that Yuuri and Victor don’t have to worry about the constant danger of life as a demigod like he does causes Yuri to have an existential crisis where he wonders when it became normal for him to be constantly ready for an ambush to the point of keeping at least two weapons on hand at all times, even during his skate programs.
- In Chapter 40 Ethan is the only one bothered by how calm the other demigods are about disposing of Bryce's corpse.
- Cosmic Retcon: Alabaster manages to defeat the Triumvirate by erasing all records of their existence and making the entire world forget they ever existed.
- Dies Differently in Adaptation: Instead of being Dragged Off to Hell courtesy of Nico like in The Blood of Olympus, Bryce Lawrence is killed by Lavinia and Ethan via manubalista bolt to the head.
- Fictional United Nations: The Stygian Conventions is a court used to settle disputes between different pantheons.
- For Want Of A Nail: While not having much of an impact on the plot of ‘’The Battle of the Labyrinth’’ or ‘’The Last Olympian’’, once the fic starts covering the events of The Heroes of Olympus, Yuri’s involvement, as well as Nico’s early interactions with Lavinia and Felix in Canada begin to change the course of the canon plot of the Camp Half Blood series, to the point where much of the events of The Trials of Apollo end up being circumvented entirely.
- Gambit Pile Up: Every single one of Melinoe's henchpeople is planning to betray the others for various reasons.
- Internal Reveal:
- Yuri finally learns about the existence of the gods in Chapter 21.
- Mila finds out about Yuri’s double life at the end of Chapter 36.
- Kill the God: The goal of Nero’s twelve Demigod children.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Yakov, Victor, and Yuuri are directly kept away from the Masquerade. Mila is as well for most of the story but finds out when she witnesses Yuri confronting Bryce Lawrence in Chapter 36.
- Pen Pals: Yuri and Nico initially communicate through letters during ‘’The Battle of the Labyrinth’’ until Nico helps the Hephaestus cabin develop a workaround to Demigods’ inability to use cell phones.
- Regime Change: After the defeat of Kronos, Melinoe's goal is to get the other pantheons to pull this against the Olympians, removing Zeus and installing Hades as leader of the Greek pantheon.
- Secret-Keeper:
- Lilia keeps Yuri’s involvement in the supernatural world a secret from Yakov.
- Spared by the Adaptation: Nico saves Ethan Nakamura from falling off the Empire State Building in The Last Olympian.
- The Stations of the Canon: The first half of the fic crosses over with the events of The Battle of The Labyrinth, The Last Olympian, and The Sword of Hades. Events from The Heroes of Olympus happen mostly the same as in canon, but events from The Blood of Olympus and The Trials of Apollo happen completely differently, if at all, thanks to Yuri’s involvement, and the events
- Tomato in the Mirror: Shortly after learning that all the different pantheons are real, Yuri finds out that he’s a slavic demigod.
- Un-person:
- Yuri’s mother suffered this fate years before the story began as a result of her dealings with Kronos.
- Alabaster is actively shown doing this to the Triumvirate in Chapter 36.
- Unwitting Muggle Friend: Yuri technically counts as this to Nico for the first half of the fic, because although he knows Nico has supernatural powers, he still isn't aware of the existence of all the different pantheons. He's fully brought into the loop halfway through the story, right before finding out he himself was never normal to begin with.
