Sick Streak is a Phineas and Ferb fanfic released in 2011.

At this point, Phineas and Ferb are in high school. One day, Phineas wakes up with a mysterious sickness, but refuses to do anything, because he wants to keep up his inventing streak. Can he overcome his own stubbornness before it's too late?

Tropes:

  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Lampshaded.
Phineas: I need my daily dose of inventing, Ferb! I—
Ferb, Candace, and Jeremy: [in unison] —know what we're going to do today.
    Phineas: Catchphrase stealers.
  • Break the Cutie: Phineas experiencing the worst pain he has ever felt, and nearly dying from it.
  • Call-Back:
    • To the Season 2 episode "Brain Drain", a Sick Episode where Phineas and Ferb spend the day playing video games. Ferb points out that he recovered faster since he let his drinking bird play for him, while Phineas (who actively played) took longer to recover.
  • The Cameo: Gretchen (a Fireside Girl) appears in Phineas and Ferb's science class.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • To the Season 1 episode "Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Terror!". The ringtone on Phineas's phone for Ferb is the song "Backyard Beach" from that episode.
    • When Ferb is looking through Phineas's sketchbook, he sees their designs for things such as the rollercoaster, backyard beach, and haunted house (all from Season 1).
  • Deconstruction Fic: This fanfic deconstructs Phineas's immense desire to spend all day, every day inventing things, by showing how he deals with a medical emergency.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Linda uses this toward Phineas when trying to get him out of bed in Chapter 1.
  • Never Say "Die": Candace tells this to the doctor after Phineas is rushed into emergency surgery.
  • Obsessed with Perfect Attendance: Phineas has not missed a day of school so far, and is determined to keep his perfect record.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Lampshaded.
Candace had expected something to go wrong that day; like Ferb, she had a horrible foreboding. But what she considered to be wrong would be something like another trip to the school in order to pick her brother up. Phineas would probably wait until after the rehearsal before calling her on his cell phone and asking her to pick him up. But when she heard Ferb crying frantically at the other end of the phone, Candace knew that something was horribly wrong—Ferb never panicked like that. The moment he said Phineas had to be rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, in which no one but the teacher and Ferb were allowed to ride along, Candace hung up the phone, grabbed her car keys and dashed out of the house as quickly as she could.
  • Promotion to Parent: Because Linda and Lawrence are out of town, Candace has to act as Phineas's legal guardian with regards to his emergency surgery.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: Discussed.
"Traveling through time and zapping yourselves into video games is not as freaky to you guys as car accidents and appendicitis," Candace said, forming brackets when speaking the word freaky. "To you two, those are normal things that every kid—or every Phineas and Ferb—should face at one point." She leaned over and gave a comforting smile to her stepbrother. "Real life situations can be a lot scarier than dinosaurs and aliens, Ferb. It's normal to feel helpless in face of problems like these. Even for unemotional geeks like you."
  • Ruptured Appendix: Happens to Phineas. His appendix does indeed rupture, and he nearly dies because of it.
  • Working Through the Cold: Deconstructed. Phineas attempts to keep inventing in spite of his illness, and nearly dies from appendicitis.
