- The damage had already been done, and the only thing that could ever make a change at this point was to undo it all. As their eyes fell upon the time capsule, they activated the Z-drive. This was their one and only second chance.
After a heist gone wrong, rather than running away with their loot, for some reason Powder mysteriously falls unconscious and the gang receives a grim message from the future. "Save Powder, do not let Jinx be born".
Later on, along with some of the people from the Topside, they begin watching their own story.
Second Chance
is an Arcane "Let's Watch Our Show" Plot fanfic made by Nerodith.
Due to the nature of the fanfic, spoiler alerts are unmarked:
- Bad Future: According to future Ekko, Heimerdinger and Jayce, the canon events of Arcane lead to this, with a terrible war raging, lots of people dying, forcing them to use dangerous technology (time travel) in an attempt to avert it.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: All Mylo had ever wanted was for Vi to agree with him that Powder was a screw-up who only made things harder of them whenever they went out on missions. Then he witnesses Vi's other self strike Powder and call her a jinx just like he always had after the cannery explosion, and he finds himself horrified by the fracturing of Vi and Powder's relationship.
- Dramatic Irony: Vi, Mylo, and Claggor debate early on how to stop this mysterious 'Jinx' and save Powder in the process, completely unaware that Jinx is Powder (or more accurately, Powder gone mad).
- Everyone Has Standards:
- When Mylo finds out that Powder was the one who caused the explosion that botched their heist, he refrains from bringing up how this validates his complaints about Powder being a liability on account of their Powder being unconscious as a result of the explosion.
- Mel Medarda and Cassandra Kiramman may be cold-blooded politicians at best and apathetic to the plight of the Undercity at worst (however they are ultimately on the good side, especially for the former), but even they are terrified by Silco, who uses minors as experimental guinea pigs for Singed to turn them into merciless, bloodthirsty monsters. They also speechless at how he's willing to flood the Undercity with shimmer to gain Zaun's independence.
- For Want Of A Nail: Ironically, the cast sees those events. Or rather, what would have happened if there was no time capsule and Powder didn't end up unconscious.
- Heel Realization:
- As they watch the state of the Undercity and the problems plaguing it, the council members watching the events of Arcane start to realize that they can't simply care for Piltover at the expense of the Undercity, Mel even more so after realizing that this sort of attitude led to her death.
- After seeing himself being part of a dangerous project in an attempt to stop a Bad Future from happening, Heimerdinger is a bit less strict with Jayce's and Viktor's actions.
- Kidnapped by an Ally: Caitlyn needs to get Heimerdinger to Jayce's lab and postpone the trial for Vi and her brothers. Her solution once she finds the professor? She scoops the centuries-old yordle up in her arms like a teddy bear and books it to the lab.
- "Let's Watch Our Show" Plot: Thanks to the wonders of the Z-Drive made by Ekko and the joint effort of the creation of a time capsule by Jayce, Viktor and Heimerdinger, the Cast in the past now has a chance to watch their story unfold and have a second chance to make it all right.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Vi is horrified by her other self yelling at Powder after the cannery explosion. She somehow gets even more horrified when she realizes it drives Powder into Silco's arms. The chapter ends in Vi running out of the room in a panic.
- Oh, Crap!: Everyone's reaction when seeing the effects of Shimmer.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Caitlyn is not amused by the fact that her best and only friend decided to give up on his life after his expulsion and her mother stopped her sponsorship. Even though it hasn't happened and therefore, Jayce didn't attempt it yet, he feels sorry.
