Rise of the Mutants contains examples of:
- Back from the Dead: Jean Gray makes a dramatic return in Part III, helping to defeat Emperor D'Ken.
- Freudian Excuse: Just like in canon, Magneto's involves the Holocaust. In addition, he was experimented on by Nathaniel Essex before Wolverine and Captain America saved him.
- Good Is Not Nice: Jean Gray is one of the most compassionate people in the story. She still executes D'Ken despite the later's begging for mercy, both out of disgust for all of the crimes that he has committed and plans to commit and because he'll just exploit her mercy.
