Retrouvailles is an Assassination Classroom fanfiction in which Nagisa Shiota's twenty-six-year-old self is transported back through time to before his first year of junior high. Now assuming the alias Yamaha Naho, he becomes Class E's new teacher and mentors the younger versions of himself and his classmates.

Can be found here.

Retrouvailles contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • In canon, the students aside from Kayano barely knew Aguri Yukimura before she died two weeks into the school year, although they regard her memory with respect. In Retrouvailles, her being Spared by the Adaptation means that they have a closer relationship with her.
    • Canon Kayano had a crush on Nagisa that was implied to be unreciprocated. Here, their relationship is more like a pair of siblings, possibly due to her acting more like herself instead of playing a character.
    • Canon Karma and Nagisa are an interesting case in that they were always friends, but there was an awkward distance between them before they eventually patched things up with a high stakes paintball game. Here, there’s a degree of resentment from Karma's side, but Naho pushes him to patch it up earlier than in canon.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: A justified one. Kayano initially was only acting like the sweet and friendly girl she was before eventually Becoming the Mask after bonding with the class under this guise. Here, there's no need for her to continue with her act, so she behaves in her more blunt, grumpy, and self-assured manner that is more in line with her actual self.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Nagisa ("Naho") and Karma ("Kaito") are married, and Naho in particular makes a point that he is strictly into men. In canon, their orientations are more unclear.
  • Becoming the Mask: Naho views his new name as his new identity rather than his old one of "Nagisa", which helps us as the audience to differentiate between the older and younger versions of him. Reality itself is affected by this when his DNA starts changing itself completely. The same can be said for Kaito, née Karma.
  • Believing Their Own Lies: Naho initially didn't recognize Kaito, or refused to recognize him, because he feared that it was too good to be true, and didn’t want to bear the pain of getting him back and risking losing him again when he was just starting to move on.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Aguri gets downright murderous when her sister is threatened, such as when she hears that Kayano is messing with tentacles, or when she shows signs of being Hot for Teacher.
  • Death by Adaptation: Takaoka injects himself with tentacles and is subsequently killed by Naho, who uses the stun gun to overload them.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Naho is more than willing to call out his crazy boss, Principal Asano, for his treatment of his son and the way he runs his school like a prison camp. Even if he fully acknowledges how scary the principal can be.
  • Family of Choice: Aguri, Kayano, and Naho become this for Nagisa when his mother ups the ante of her godawful treatment of him. He winds up spending more time at Naho and Aguri's place than his mother's, and refers to their apartment as his home.
  • The Gambling Addict: Kayano is apparently turning into one of these after Koro-sensei teaches her how to play poker.
  • Guilt Complex: Naho has a massive one. He blames himself for abandoning his kids for several days after promising he wouldn't... except the reason he "abandoned" them was because he was hospitalized.
  • Hot for Teacher: Aguri mentions that Kayano has a thing for Naho, much to his chagrin. Irina claims that a lot of the students feel this way — again, much to Naho's chagrin.
  • Identical Stranger: Kaito, who initially had no memories or identity, was taken in by an old man who insisted that Kaito looked exactly like his dead grandson. Whether this was anything more than a coincidence, we’ll never know.
  • Mysterious Past: How everyone in the class views Naho, though we as the audience know exactly who he is. His unexplained skills and prowess despite being a civilian are what make him suspect. Ritsu in particular is incredibly frustrated with not being able to find documents on him.
  • Papa Wolf: Naho will not stand for anyone harming his kids, and would sooner kill, go to prison, or lay down his life than let anything hurt them.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Aguri and Naho become this after he becomes her roommate, and he shares the truth about himself with her, causing Aguri to become his Secret-Keeper.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Aguri Yukimura, thanks to Naho's interference.
  • Trauma Button: For Naho, it's trains, especially their sound.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Trains, in the case of Naho. He and his husband were killed in a train accident.
