Fanfic / Redemption The Lone Lobster

Go To

Redemption is a Fanfic by Josh Mystic. It is a crossover between Hazbin Hotel and Doom.

For so long Heaven has allowed the many Hells that manage the sins of mortals to toil away at their own devices, but after the worst of them falls by the hand of a single soul determined to rid creation of their corruption, the denizens of these dark realms must now make a choice, seek redemption, or face Doom.

The story would later receive two sequels titled Salvation and Rebirth before the latter was deleted. The original drafts of the first two stories would be republished into one combined work that can be accessed here before the author launched a Continuity Reboot of the series named Salvation (not to be confused with the original Salvation).

This story provides examples of:

  • Action Bomb: Sir Pentious becomes an unwilling example of this trope after a Lost Soul that latched onto him during his time in the Ripatorium uses him as a key to open a portal into Hell so that the demons of Doom can escape containment and invade Hell.
  • Adaptational Badass: Somehow, this applies to The Doom Slayer. While in canon he's already established as being able to mow down entire demonic armies, here he outright hunted the Slaves of Doom to extinction. It should say something that Lucifer Magne is completely terrified of him.
  • Adaptational Heroism: The Khan Makyr, Samur and the Makyrs in general aren't working with the demons of Doom in this one and are still backing the Slayer.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Rather than aliens that resemble angels, the Makyrs are actually a different race of angels in this story.
  • Admiring the Abomination: In contrast to most others, Angel Dust thinks the Slayer and his weapons are incredibly awesome and quickly tries to befriend him. After getting a glimpse of his actual face, he's outright in love with him.
  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: After the Doom Slayer murders Katie Killjoy, Tom Trench outright comes to the hotel to thank him.
  • Barred from the Afterlife: The Slayer's soul is considered too tainted to enter Heaven, meaning he will never be able to reunite with Daisy.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Doom's invasion of Hell is repelled, but at the cost of Gabriel and Sir Pentious being stuck as the Dark Lord's slaves and the Doom Slayer sealing himself away with the forces of Doom to prevent their escape.
  • Bullying a Dragon:
    • Katie Killjoy insults and demeans Lilith, the queen of Hell, when she comes to her in order to advertise Charlie's hotel. Lilith promptly hires the Immediate Murder Professionals to get payback.
    • She later insults the Doom Slayer for not killing Moxxie and Millie. This time, it doesn't end well for her as the Doom Slayer shoots her right then and there.
    • Really, any demon trying to mouth off to The Slayer after he already depopulated one Hell is Too Dumb to Live.
  • The Dreaded: As usual, the Slayer utterly terrifies every demon around him, and anyone who isn't scared is portrayed as exceptionally foolish.
    • For that matter, The Doom version of Hell (simply called Doom), is feared even among the demons of the Hazbinverse version of Hell. The fact that The Slayer turned it into a graveyard just amplifies his status as this trope that much further.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • Lucifer is the literal Lord of Hell, but he clearly loves his wife and unlike in the series, it's also clear he loves his daughter as well (canon is ambiguous on this point).
    • Moxxie and Millie are also very clearly in love with one another. This is implied to be the only reason the Doom Slayer spares them, as their love is what confirms to him that they are different from the Slaves of Doom.
  • Fate Worse than Death: The Ripatorium is portrayed as a device that stores the souls of demons where they are perpetually tortured by the most wicked of demons and continuously revives them no matter what is done to them.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Lucifer is so terrified of the Doom Slayer that he goes out of his way to help Charlie work on the Hotel and try for redemption, even though he thinks the idea is silly.
  • Heroic Lineage: The Doom Slayer is the descendant of one William J. Blazkowicz, who saved the world after it was conquered by Nazis.
  • Hidden Depths: Vaggie is noted to have a hidden interest in Sci-Fi and once she gets over her beating from the Doom Slayer, thinks his armor and technology are really cool.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Lucifer and his subordinates are literally the most powerful demons in hell. All of them are terrified of The Doom Slayer, since he is the undisputed master of Demon Slaying.
  • Intra-Franchise Crossover: While most of the Hell cast comes from Hazbin Hotel, Blitzo, Moxxie, and Millie also make more than a few appearances.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: While Angel Dust and Cherri Bomb already think the Slayer is incredibly attractive, his talent at wanton carnage makes him even sexier to them.
  • Killing Intent: The Slayer is able to emit what seems to be an aura of terror that is symbolized by drum-like thumping (likely the opening to BFG Division).
  • Mordor: The Dimension of Doom is a realm of Hell considered worse than all other Hells. Now it's nothing more than a mass graveyard thanks to the Slayer.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Generally speaking, the Slayer tends to break the will of demons just by being near them, Cases in point:
    • Lucifer, who is literally Satan himself, practically bends over backward in fear from the Doom Slayer. This should tell you just how proficient at Demon Slaying the Slayer is.
    • In Chapter 3, after learning exactly what the Slayer will do if the denizens of hell continue to waste their opportunity at redemption, Charlie visibly acts more assertive in getting the hotel running - the stakes are just that high.
    • Even Alastor is visibly cautious around the Slayer.
    • After watching a documentary about the history of the Slayer, all the characters are left speechless at how much the Slayer has suffered.
  • Too Dumb to Live:
    • Alastor considers trying to deal with the Slayer. Lucifer point blank warns him this is an incredibly stupid idea.
    • Katie Killjoy reacts flippantly to the Slayer sparing Moxxie and Millie after the two attempt to kill her. The Slayer promptly does the job himself out of disgust for her callousness.
      • Additionally, the entire debacle above was brought about by Katie mocking Lilith, the Queen of Hell.
  • Van Helsing Hate Crimes: Defied by the Doom Slayer - though he has ample reason to want to kill every demon in existence, he's also willing to acknowledge that not all demons are like the Slaves of Doom. His decision to spare Moxxie and Millie highlights this...as does his choice to kill Katie Killjoy after the latter openly demeans him for offering the former two mercy. He also tolerates Angel Dust for being one of the few demons who doesn't treat him with fear or hostility.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Vaggie is willing to take on the Slayer to protect Charlie. Granted, she gets her ass kicked, but it's implied that the Doom Slayer spared her because of this.
  • Voice for the Voiceless: Since the Slayer doesn't speak, VEGA does the speaking for him.
  • The Worf Effect: The Slayer kills one of Lucifer's strongest underlings just for complaining about the Slayer's presence and how he acts like he owns the place, and does so with laughable ease, firmly establishing why Lucifer is afraid of the Doom Slayer.
